| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Chambers County is situated on some 600 square miles |

| 11 | 12 | | of Gulf Coast plains, and the area has long played an integral role |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | in Texas history; Anahuac, which later became the county seat, was |

| 13 | 14 | | where some of the first shots of the Texas Revolution were fired |

| 14 | 15 | | during a confrontation in 1832 between Mexican military personnel |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | and a group of insurgents that included William B. Travis; the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | county was officially created in 1858 from portions of Liberty and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Jefferson Counties and named for Thomas Jefferson Chambers, a local |
