| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Trooper Day at the Texas Capitol is taking place on |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | May 19, 2025, providing a fitting opportunity to recognize the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | officers and staff of Region VII of the Texas Department of Public |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Safety for their commitment to protecting and serving the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | legislators and state employees of the Capitol Complex in Austin; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Since September 1991, the men and women of Region |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | VII have been responsible for the security of the 46 square-block |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | area around the State Capitol that encompasses many state |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | government facilities; supervised by the regional director, the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | region's staff includes commissioned and noncommissioned personnel |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | who are divided into details that cover the complex; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Their responsibilities include providing police and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | security patrol of the Capitol grounds, supervising and enforcing |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | traffic, administering parking, protecting visiting dignitaries, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | monitoring surveillance cameras, and staffing the x-ray machines |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and metal detectors at the Capitol's entrances; in addition, the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | region's skilled and dedicated personnel investigate crimes, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | conduct vulnerability assessments to mitigate risk, and deal with |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | crowd control during rallies and demonstrations on the Capitol |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | grounds; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, For more than three decades, the officers of Region |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | VII of DPS have worked tirelessly to maintain law, order, and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | civility in the Capitol Complex, allowing the state's legislators |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | and employees to safely and securely conduct the people's business; |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby commend Region VII of the Texas Department of |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Public Safety on the occasion of Trooper Day at the Texas Capitol |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | and extend to the region's officers and civilian staff sincere best |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | wishes for continued success in their important work; and, be it |
