| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Representatives of UTHealth Houston are gathering |

| 9 | 9 | | in Austin on January 28, 2025, for the institution's Legislative |

| 10 | 10 | | Day at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The University of Texas Health Science Center at |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Houston is one of the nation's most comprehensive academic health |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | centers, and it has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | excellence in health care education, scientific discovery, and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | patient care; UTHealth Houston comprises seven schools, including |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the McGovern Medical School, the Cizik School of Nursing, the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | School of Dentistry, and the School of Public Health; today, the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | institution serves over 5,000 students and is supported by more |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | than 8,000 faculty and staff across Texas; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, UTHealth Houston is dedicated to advancing human |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | health by enhancing the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | diseases, as well as contributing to public health through |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | extensive research initiatives, which resulted in over $309 million |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | in research expenditures in the past fiscal year; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The institution's commitment to patient care is |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | reflected in its partnerships with primary teaching and affiliated |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | hospitals, which provide over $80 million in unreimbursed charity |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | care while delivering critical health services to communities |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | across the state; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, UTHealth Houston's philanthropic endeavors, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | partnerships with local communities, and global outreach through |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | its alumni network help to advance its enduring mission to educate |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | future health professionals and improve health outcomes; the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | institution's Legislative Day at the State Capitol provides a |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | fitting opportunity to highlight UTHealth Houston's contributions |

| 36 | 36 | | to public health and to focus attention on the importance of health |
|---|

| 38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, UTHealth Houston has provided countless students |
