7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Through the essential services they provide, |

8 | 9 | | Community Action Agencies of Texas have long worked to address and |

9 | 10 | | alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty for the state's most |
---|
10 | 11 | | vulnerable residents; and |
---|
11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Established when the Economic Opportunity Act of |
---|
12 | 13 | | 1964 was signed into law, Community Action Agencies have a |
---|
13 | 14 | | six-decade history of promoting self-sufficiency for citizens of |
---|
14 | 15 | | limited income in all Texas counties; each agency assures wide |
---|
15 | 16 | | community involvement through governance by a board consisting of |
---|
16 | 17 | | low-income individuals and families from the service area and |
---|
17 | 18 | | representatives from government, business, labor, religion, law |
---|
18 | 19 | | enforcement, and education; and |
---|
19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Community Action Agencies work to strengthen |
---|
20 | 21 | | communities in times of natural and human disasters, extraordinary |
---|
21 | 22 | | economic challenges, and major health crises; they follow immediate |
---|
22 | 23 | | response with long-term services to promote recovery; while |
---|
23 | 24 | | creating access to safe and affordable housing, they also reduce |
---|
24 | 25 | | expenses through energy efficiency and utility payment programs; |
---|
25 | 26 | | they provide nutrition assistance as well as primary and preventive |
---|
26 | 27 | | health care; in addition, their initiatives promote academic |
---|
27 | 28 | | success and the development of workforce skills; and |

28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, By offering impactful solutions to help families |

29 | 30 | | achieve financial stability, Community Action Agencies are |
---|
30 | 31 | | changing lives and making the Lone Star State a more prosperous, |
---|
31 | 32 | | vibrant, and dynamic place for all; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commend the Community Action Agencies of Texas |
---|
34 | 35 | | for their contributions and extend to them sincere best wishes for |
---|
35 | 36 | | continued success in their important work; and, be it further |
---|
36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

37 | 38 | | prepared for the Texas Association of Community Action Agencies as |
