67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Through the essential services they provide,
89 Community Action Agencies of Texas have long worked to address and
910 alleviate the causes and conditions of poverty for the state's most
1011 vulnerable residents; and
1112 WHEREAS, Established when the Economic Opportunity Act of
1213 1964 was signed into law, Community Action Agencies have a
1314 six-decade history of promoting self-sufficiency for citizens of
1415 limited income in all Texas counties; each agency assures wide
1516 community involvement through governance by a board consisting of
1617 low-income individuals and families from the service area and
1718 representatives from government, business, labor, religion, law
1819 enforcement, and education; and
1920 WHEREAS, Community Action Agencies work to strengthen
2021 communities in times of natural and human disasters, extraordinary
2122 economic challenges, and major health crises; they follow immediate
2223 response with long-term services to promote recovery; while
2324 creating access to safe and affordable housing, they also reduce
2425 expenses through energy efficiency and utility payment programs;
2526 they provide nutrition assistance as well as primary and preventive
2627 health care; in addition, their initiatives promote academic
2728 success and the development of workforce skills; and
2829 WHEREAS, By offering impactful solutions to help families
2930 achieve financial stability, Community Action Agencies are
3031 changing lives and making the Lone Star State a more prosperous,
3132 vibrant, and dynamic place for all; now, therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby commend the Community Action Agencies of Texas
3435 for their contributions and extend to them sincere best wishes for
3536 continued success in their important work; and, be it further
3637 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3738 prepared for the Texas Association of Community Action Agencies as
3839 an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
