9 | 10 | | close an exemplary career with the city spanning nearly four |

11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Christian first joined the Houston Parks and |

12 | 13 | | Recreation Department in 1985, and was tasked with creating MOSE in |
---|
13 | 14 | | 1992; over the course of her tenure as director, she has been |
---|
14 | 15 | | responsible for producing numerous local events, such as the |
---|
15 | 16 | | July 4th Freedom Over Texas celebration, the H-E-B Thanksgiving Day |
---|
16 | 17 | | Parade, and Cigna Sunday in the Park, as well as all eight of |
---|
17 | 18 | | Houston's national sports championship victory parades; under her |
---|
18 | 19 | | leadership, the city serves as host to a number of national and |
---|
19 | 20 | | international tournaments, including NCAA Championship, NFL Super |
---|
20 | 21 | | Bowl, and FIFA World Cup games; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In 2015, Ms. Christian cofounded Houston Civic |
---|
22 | 23 | | Events, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating the |
---|
23 | 24 | | city's talent pool through mentorship programs, workshops, and |
---|
24 | 25 | | alliances with educational institutions; in addition, she has |
---|
25 | 26 | | served on boards and committees for various groups, among them The |
---|
26 | 27 | | Heritage Society at Sam Houston Park and the Houston Livestock Show |
---|
27 | 28 | | and Rodeo; and |

28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Christian is a graduate of Texas Christian |
---|
29 | 30 | | University, where she earned her bachelor's degree; in all her |
---|
30 | 31 | | endeavors, she enjoys the love and support of her partner, Laura |
---|
31 | 32 | | Spanjian, as well as that of her two sons; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Through her commitment to community enrichment, |
---|
33 | 34 | | inclusivity, and the arts, Ms. Christian has furthered Houston's |
---|
34 | 35 | | reputation as a destination for world-class events, and she may |
---|
35 | 36 | | take well-deserved pride in her exceptional record of achievement |

36 | 37 | | as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, |

38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
