67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Lanora C. Pettit concluded her service as principal
89 deputy solicitor general of the Office of the Attorney General of
910 Texas on January 24, 2025, and this occasion provides a fitting
1011 opportunity to recognize her many outstanding contributions; and
1112 WHEREAS, Ms. Pettit first joined the Office of the Attorney
1213 General in July 2019 as assistant solicitor general, and she was
1314 promoted to principal deputy solicitor general in May 2021; her
1415 responsibilities included representing the state and its agencies
1516 and officials in both state and federal court on a variety of
1617 topics, and she also handled several matters on behalf of state
1718 universities, such as arguing The University of Texas System v. The
1819 Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity and Jon Cassidy
1920 in 2023; an accomplished appellate lawyer, she authored hundreds of
2021 briefs and argued more than 40 appeals over the course of her
2122 tenure, including numerous cases before the Supreme Court of the
2223 United States, the en banc U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth
2324 Circuit, and the Texas Supreme Court; and
2425 WHEREAS, Ms. Pettit holds a bachelor's degree in history from
2526 the College of William and Mary, and she graduated summa cum laude
2627 both from there and from the University of Virginia School of Law;
2728 she embarked on her legal career as a clerk for the U.S. Court of
2829 Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and she went on to practice at a
2930 large law firm in New York for two years and then at a litigation
3031 boutique in Washington, D.C., for five years, handling commercial
3132 legal proceedings with a focus on securities and bankruptcy law;
3233 and
3334 WHEREAS, The skill, professionalism, and commitment to
3435 excellence demonstrated by Lanora Pettit made her an important
3536 asset to the Texas attorney general's office, and she may reflect
3637 with pride on her accomplishments, knowing that she rendered
3738 invaluable service to her colleagues and fellow citizens; now,
3839 therefore, be it
3940 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4041 Legislature hereby honor Lanora C. Pettit for her service as
4142 principal deputy solicitor general of the Office of the Attorney
4243 General of Texas and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
4344 success in all her endeavors; and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for Ms. Pettit as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4647 House of Representatives.
