| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce are |

| 9 | 9 | | visiting the State Capitol on March 5, 2025, providing a welcome |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | opportunity to pay tribute to this outstanding organization and the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | city it serves; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Located in central Harris County, the area was first |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | settled in 1892 by farmer and former Illinois legislator Simeon |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Henry West, and it was named for the abundant deer that roamed the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Gulf region during that time; in 1893, Mr. West built a hotel and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | post office, and a railway station was established soon after; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Deer Park was incorporated in 1948; in the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | subsequent decades, the city saw significant growth, and today, it |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | is home to more than 33,000 residents; education is a key element in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the city's productivity, and in conjunction with the surrounding |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | communities, Deer Park has supported San Jacinto College since its |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | opening in 1961; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Visitors and residents alike enjoy a range of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | recreational opportunities, including a community theater and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | numerous parks; the city also offers such historical attractions as |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Patrick's Cabin, the site at which the initial treaty papers were |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | drafted following the 1836 Battle of San Jacinto, where Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | secured its independence from Mexico; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Under the exceptional leadership of president and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | CEO Paula Moorhaj, chair Debbie Westbeld, and the other board |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | members, the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce is a strong agent |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | promoting economic vitality and quality of life in the region; it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | boasts numerous committees that are designed to provide its members |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | with key business opportunities and improve the overall standard of |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | living in Deer Park, and it works daily to promote community |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | development; and |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, The Deer Park Chamber of Commerce has played an |

| 38 | 38 | | important role in building a stronger business network and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | community, and all those associated with the organization may take |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | pride in their contributions to the area's prosperity; now, |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | therefore, be it |

| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 5, 2025, as Deer Park Chamber of |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | Commerce Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | visiting delegation. |
