| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, Taek and Nancy Kim have |

| 8 | 9 | | been the owners of the Pulga de Alamo, one of the largest and |

| 9 | 10 | | busiest flea markets in the Rio Grande Valley; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, In 1996, Mr. and Mrs. Kim purchased the Pulga de |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Alamo, which spanned 28 acres at the time, and its structures were |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | dated; over the years, they worked to expand the market to its |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | current size of more than 70 acres, and with its estimated 1,500 |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | vendors, the shopping destination generates hundreds of jobs |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | annually; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The pulga, the Spanish word for "flea," has also |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | become a one-of-a-kind dance hall; on the weekends, its main floor, |

| 18 | 19 | | known as El Domo, is filled with dancers in unique attire who draw |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | people in from near and far to see the spectacle; amassing hundreds |

| 20 | 21 | | of thousands of followers on social media, the dancers and the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | market alike are now a viral sensation; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Kim, who is an immigrant from South Korea, and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Mrs. Kim, who is Mexican American, both grew up in the Rio Grande |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Valley, and as children they each frequented local flea markets to |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | sell various items; the couple owned the Mercedes Flea Market prior |

| 26 | 27 | | to purchasing the Pulga de Alamo, and these lifelong experiences |

| 27 | 28 | | have given them the vision to grow the pulga to where it is today; |

| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Through their hard work and dedication, Taek and |

| 30 | 31 | | Nancy Kim have transformed the Pulga de Alamo into a renowned center |

| 31 | 32 | | for commerce and culture in the Rio Grande Valley, and they are |

| 32 | 33 | | indeed deserving of recognition for all that they have achieved; |

| 33 | 34 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Taek and Nancy Kim on their 29 |
