8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The House of Representatives of the State of Texas |

9 | 9 | | joins the millions around the world in mourning the passing of His |

10 | 10 | | Highness Shah Karim Al-Hussaini, Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary |

11 | 11 | | Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslim community and Founder and Chairman |

12 | 12 | | of the Aga Khan Development Network; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Born on December 13, 1936, in Geneva, Switzerland, |
---|
14 | 14 | | His Highness succeeded his grandfather, Aga Khan III, in 1957 as the |
---|
15 | 15 | | 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, assuming the |
---|
16 | 16 | | sacred duty of guiding the Ismaili community in matters of faith and |
---|
17 | 17 | | leading global humanitarian efforts; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, A direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (peace |
---|
19 | 19 | | be upon him and his family) through his daughter Hazrat Bibi Fatima |
---|
20 | 20 | | and his cousin and son-in-law Hazrat Ali, His Highness devoted his |
---|
21 | 21 | | life to the principles of compassion, service, and the pursuit of |

22 | 22 | | knowledge; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, His Highness was a visionary leader whose commitment |
---|
24 | 24 | | to social development and humanitarianism was realized through the |
---|
25 | 25 | | Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), which has provided critical |
---|
26 | 26 | | resources in healthcare, education, economic development, and |
---|
27 | 27 | | cultural preservation to communities in more than 30 countries; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Under his leadership, AKDN built hospitals, |
---|
29 | 29 | | universities, schools, and economic development programs that |
---|
30 | 30 | | improved the quality of life for millions, regardless of faith or |
---|
31 | 31 | | nationality; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, A champion of pluralism and interfaith dialogue, His |
---|
33 | 33 | | Highness worked to bridge divides and promote mutual understanding, |
---|
34 | 34 | | earning numerous international honors; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, His Highness Shah Karim Al-Hussaini, Aga Khan IV, |

36 | 36 | | passed away on February 4, 2025, in Lisbon, Portugal, leaving |

37 | 37 | | behind a profound legacy that will continue to inspire future |

38 | 38 | | generations; and |

39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, The State of Texas recognizes the extraordinary |

40 | 40 | | contributions of His Highness in strengthening communities, |
---|
41 | 41 | | advancing humanitarian causes, and uplifting people through |
---|
42 | 42 | | education and economic empowerment, including within Texas, where |
---|
43 | 43 | | the Ismaili Muslim community has flourished under his guidance; |

44 | 44 | | now, therefore, be it |

45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

46 | 46 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of His Highness Shah |
---|
47 | 47 | | Karim Al-Hussaini, Aga Khan IV, and extend deepest condolences to |
---|
48 | 48 | | his family, to the global Ismaili community, and to all those |
---|
49 | 49 | | mourning his passing; and, be it further |
---|
50 | 50 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
51 | 51 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
52 | 52 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of His |
