77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, The House of Representatives of the State of Texas
99 joins the millions around the world in mourning the passing of His
1010 Highness Shah Karim Al-Hussaini, Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary
1111 Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslim community and Founder and Chairman
1212 of the Aga Khan Development Network; and
1313 WHEREAS, Born on December 13, 1936, in Geneva, Switzerland,
1414 His Highness succeeded his grandfather, Aga Khan III, in 1957 as the
1515 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, assuming the
1616 sacred duty of guiding the Ismaili community in matters of faith and
1717 leading global humanitarian efforts; and
1818 WHEREAS, A direct descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (peace
1919 be upon him and his family) through his daughter Hazrat Bibi Fatima
2020 and his cousin and son-in-law Hazrat Ali, His Highness devoted his
2121 life to the principles of compassion, service, and the pursuit of
2222 knowledge; and
2323 WHEREAS, His Highness was a visionary leader whose commitment
2424 to social development and humanitarianism was realized through the
2525 Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), which has provided critical
2626 resources in healthcare, education, economic development, and
2727 cultural preservation to communities in more than 30 countries; and
2828 WHEREAS, Under his leadership, AKDN built hospitals,
2929 universities, schools, and economic development programs that
3030 improved the quality of life for millions, regardless of faith or
3131 nationality; and
3232 WHEREAS, A champion of pluralism and interfaith dialogue, His
3333 Highness worked to bridge divides and promote mutual understanding,
3434 earning numerous international honors; and
3535 WHEREAS, His Highness Shah Karim Al-Hussaini, Aga Khan IV,
3636 passed away on February 4, 2025, in Lisbon, Portugal, leaving
3737 behind a profound legacy that will continue to inspire future
3838 generations; and
3939 WHEREAS, The State of Texas recognizes the extraordinary
4040 contributions of His Highness in strengthening communities,
4141 advancing humanitarian causes, and uplifting people through
4242 education and economic empowerment, including within Texas, where
4343 the Ismaili Muslim community has flourished under his guidance;
4444 now, therefore, be it
4545 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4646 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of His Highness Shah
4747 Karim Al-Hussaini, Aga Khan IV, and extend deepest condolences to
4848 his family, to the global Ismaili community, and to all those
4949 mourning his passing; and, be it further
5050 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5151 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5252 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of His
5353 Highness Shah Karim Al-Hussaini, Aga Khan IV.
