67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Robert Maurice Galvan Sr., a valued member of the
89 Corpus Christi community and a friend to many, passed away on
910 January 7, 2025, at the age of 95; and
1011 WHEREAS, The son of Rafael and Virginia Galvan, Bobby Galvan
1112 was born in Corpus Christi on July 10, 1929, and he grew up with the
1213 companionship of eight siblings; a talented musician from an early
1314 age, he played clarinet in the 1947 All-State Band; after
1415 graduating from Corpus Christi High School, he attended Del Mar
1516 College before going on to earn his bachelor's degree from St.
1617 Mary's University in 1953; answering his nation's call to duty, he
1718 served in the United States Air Force, and he was a member of the
1819 USAF Band of the West and the Army Reserve Band; and
1920 WHEREAS, Mr. Galvan began his career as an educator and
2021 touring musician, playing with a number of big bands, such as the
2122 Bobby Galvan Orchestra, Art Mooney Orchestra, Luis Alcaraz
2223 Orchestra, and Gene Krupa Orchestra; in 1960, he established Galvan
2324 Music Company, and he went on to manage the Galvan Ballroom and
2425 Galvan Rental; and
2526 WHEREAS, In 1965, Mr. Galvan exchanged vows with the former
2627 Alicia Varela, and the couple shared a fulfilling union that
2728 spanned 54 years until her passing; he took great pride in their two
2829 children, Bobby and Guadalupe, and over the years, his family grew
2930 to include a granddaughter, Lexi; and
3031 WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Galvan was president of
3132 Sembradores de Amistad of Corpus Christi and a founding member of
3233 the Westside Business Association; he was also pivotal in creating
3334 the Texas Jazz Festival, and he performed on the lineup for decades;
3435 in recognition of his contributions, he received awards from LULAC
3536 Council No. 1 and the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, and in 2013 he
3637 was inducted into the Corpus Christi Business Hall of Fame by Junior
3738 Achievement of the Coastal Bend; and
3839 WHEREAS, While the passing of Bobby Galvan brings great
3940 sadness to his family and friends, he leaves behind a legacy that
4041 will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now,
4142 therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4344 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Maurice Galvan
4445 Sr. and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to
4546 his son, Robert M. "Bobby" Galvan Jr., and his wife, Deeanne; to his
4647 granddaughter, Jacqueline Alicia "Lexi" Galvan; and to his many
4748 other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4849 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4950 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5051 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bobby
5152 Galvan.
