7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Robert Maurice Galvan Sr., a valued member of the |

8 | 9 | | Corpus Christi community and a friend to many, passed away on |

9 | 10 | | January 7, 2025, at the age of 95; and |

10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The son of Rafael and Virginia Galvan, Bobby Galvan |
---|
11 | 12 | | was born in Corpus Christi on July 10, 1929, and he grew up with the |
---|
12 | 13 | | companionship of eight siblings; a talented musician from an early |
---|
13 | 14 | | age, he played clarinet in the 1947 All-State Band; after |
---|
14 | 15 | | graduating from Corpus Christi High School, he attended Del Mar |
---|
15 | 16 | | College before going on to earn his bachelor's degree from St. |
---|
16 | 17 | | Mary's University in 1953; answering his nation's call to duty, he |
---|
17 | 18 | | served in the United States Air Force, and he was a member of the |
---|
18 | 19 | | USAF Band of the West and the Army Reserve Band; and |
---|
19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Galvan began his career as an educator and |
---|
20 | 21 | | touring musician, playing with a number of big bands, such as the |
---|
21 | 22 | | Bobby Galvan Orchestra, Art Mooney Orchestra, Luis Alcaraz |
---|
22 | 23 | | Orchestra, and Gene Krupa Orchestra; in 1960, he established Galvan |
---|
23 | 24 | | Music Company, and he went on to manage the Galvan Ballroom and |
---|
24 | 25 | | Galvan Rental; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In 1965, Mr. Galvan exchanged vows with the former |
---|
26 | 27 | | Alicia Varela, and the couple shared a fulfilling union that |
---|
27 | 28 | | spanned 54 years until her passing; he took great pride in their two |
---|
28 | 29 | | children, Bobby and Guadalupe, and over the years, his family grew |
---|
29 | 30 | | to include a granddaughter, Lexi; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Galvan was president of |
---|
31 | 32 | | Sembradores de Amistad of Corpus Christi and a founding member of |
---|
32 | 33 | | the Westside Business Association; he was also pivotal in creating |
---|
33 | 34 | | the Texas Jazz Festival, and he performed on the lineup for decades; |
---|
34 | 35 | | in recognition of his contributions, he received awards from LULAC |
---|
35 | 36 | | Council No. 1 and the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, and in 2013 he |

36 | 37 | | was inducted into the Corpus Christi Business Hall of Fame by Junior |

37 | 38 | | Achievement of the Coastal Bend; and |

38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, While the passing of Bobby Galvan brings great |

39 | 40 | | sadness to his family and friends, he leaves behind a legacy that |

40 | 41 | | will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, |

41 | 42 | | therefore, be it |

42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Maurice Galvan |

44 | 45 | | Sr. and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to |

45 | 46 | | his son, Robert M. "Bobby" Galvan Jr., and his wife, Deeanne; to his |

46 | 47 | | granddaughter, Jacqueline Alicia "Lexi" Galvan; and to his many |

47 | 48 | | other relatives and friends; and, be it further |

48 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
