| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mario K. Castillo is being inaugurated as the fifth |

| 8 | 9 | | chancellor of Lone Star College on February 14, 2025; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The first Latino to hold the post, Mr. Castillo was |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | appointed chancellor of Lone Star College in August 2023; since |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | joining the institution in 2015, he has served in a number of |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | prominent roles, including general counsel, vice chancellor, and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | chief operating officer, as well as interim president of |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | LSC-Kingwood; during his tenure as chancellor, he has worked to |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | prioritize student success, reshaping policies and procedures and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | creating numerous scholarship and internship opportunities; |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | moreover, he regularly meets with students to offer career advice; |
|---|

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Previously, Mr. Castillo was a partner at Monty & |

| 20 | 21 | | Ramirez, LLP, where he practiced labor and employment law; he has |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | litigated cases in state and federal courts, appellate courts, and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | the Texas Supreme Court, and he was the briefing attorney for the |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Honorable Felix Recio Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Southern District of Texas; in addition, his peer-reviewed articles |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | have been published by Baylor Law School and the University of |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Houston Law Center; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A first-generation American and the first in his |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | family to attend college, Mr. Castillo holds a bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | government from The University of Texas at Austin and a juris doctor |

| 30 | 31 | | degree from Indiana University Bloomington Maurer School of Law; |

| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Under the outstanding stewardship of Mario |

| 33 | 34 | | Castillo, Lone Star College is poised for continued innovation and |

| 34 | 35 | | achievement in the years to come, and it is a privilege to join in |
