| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Manuel M. Vela is retiring as associate vice |

| 8 | 9 | | president and chief operating officer of the Texas A&M University |

| 9 | 10 | | Higher Education Center at McAllen on May 31, 2025; and |

| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Since joining HECM in May 2023, Manny Vela has been |

| 11 | 12 | | instrumental in establishing new positions for the center, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | developing and strengthening community partnerships, and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | completing a master plan strategizing the long-term growth of the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | campus; he previously served as the president and chief executive |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | officer of Valley Baptist Health System; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, A native of Harlingen, Mr. Vela earned his |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | bachelor's and juris doctor degrees from The University of Texas at |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Austin; he has been involved in many local, state, and national |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | organizations, including the lieutenant governor's health care |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | advisory committee; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Vela shares a rewarding marriage with his wife, |

| 22 | 23 | | Amy, and he takes great pride in their family; in retirement, he is |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | looking forward to spending more time with his loved ones as well as |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | enjoying his hobbies of playing golf, fishing, and traveling; and |

| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Through his leadership and vision, Manny Vela has |

| 26 | 27 | | contributed immensely to the mission of the Texas A&M University |

| 27 | 28 | | Higher Education Center at McAllen, and his accomplishments will |

| 28 | 29 | | continue to resonate in the years to come; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Manuel M. Vela on his retirement as |
