67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Proud residents of Tarrant County are gathering in
89 Austin on February 10 and 11, 2025, to celebrate Tarrant County Days
910 at the State Capitol; and
1011 WHEREAS, Created in 1849, Tarrant County has a history rooted
1112 in the Old West, having served as the terminus point for cattle
1213 drives during the 19th century; the county was named after General
1314 Edward H. Tarrant, who commanded Republic of Texas militia forces
1415 at the Battle of Village Creek in 1841; and
1516 WHEREAS, Tarrant County has evolved from a frontier community
1617 into a contemporary and cosmopolitan center for business,
1718 education, culture, and tourism; with more than two million people,
1819 it is the third most populous county in Texas; its county seat, Fort
1920 Worth, is the state's fourth-largest city, and other sizeable
2021 communities include Arlington, North Richland Hills, Euless,
2122 Bedford, and Keller; and
2223 WHEREAS, Visitors from across the nation are drawn to such
2324 family-friendly attractions as Six Flags Over Texas and the Fort
2425 Worth Zoo, as well as to sporting events at Globe Life Field,
2526 Choctaw Stadium, and AT&T Stadium, which will host matches for the
2627 2026 FIFA World Cup; the county is also a center for art and
2728 history, with the Kimbell Art Museum, the Modern Art Museum of Fort
2829 Worth, and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, which enjoy an
2930 international reputation, and the popular Fort Worth Stockyards
3031 National Historical District, which celebrates the city's Western
3132 heritage; and
3233 WHEREAS, Tarrant County is home to The University of Texas at
3334 Arlington, a Tier One university, and The University of Texas at
3435 Arlington Research Institute, which plans to become a global leader
3536 in advanced manufacturing, medical technologies, applied robotics,
3637 and environmental engineering; in Fort Worth, Texas Christian
3738 University continues to build on its long tradition of excellence,
3839 The Texas A&M University System makes further investments in its
3940 downtown campus and School of Law, and the University of North Texas
4041 Health Science Center is dedicated to improving health outcomes and
4142 growing the health care workforce within the county and state,
4243 while Tarrant County College offers residents outstanding and
4344 affordable educational opportunities; moreover, young Texans in
4445 the county are served by the Arlington Independent School District
4546 and the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District, which
4647 together enroll nearly 80,000 students; and
4748 WHEREAS, Tarrant County has a diversified economy and
4849 benefits from the presence of such major employers as American
4950 Airlines, Lockheed Martin, and General Motors; the county's
5051 thriving business community is served by organizations and local
5152 chambers of commerce that work to promote economic growth and
5253 foster a supportive climate for business; and
5354 WHEREAS, The citizens of Tarrant County continue to honor
5455 their rich and colorful history while building an even brighter
5556 future for the generations to come, and it is indeed fitting that
5657 they receive special recognition for their achievements and their
5758 contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
5859 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
5960 Legislature hereby recognize February 10 and 11, 2025, as Tarrant
6061 County Days at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting
6162 delegation sincere best wishes for a productive and enjoyable stay
6263 in Austin.
