67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, The board members of the Texas Renal Coalition and
89 the Texas Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force are gathering on
910 February 12, 2025, to take part in Rita L. Littlefield Kidney Day at
1011 the State Capitol; and
1112 WHEREAS, This biennial event was established in 1997 by Rita
1213 Littlefield, a founding member of the Texas Renal Coalition who has
1314 worked tirelessly for more than three decades in behalf of kidney
1415 patients; in the drive to raise awareness of a very significant
1516 medical issue, the gathering unites patients, health care
1617 providers, and organizations; and
1718 WHEREAS, Although kidney disease is a serious and rapidly
1819 growing health problem, many Texans remain unaware that they are at
1920 risk; left undetected, chronic kidney disease can lead to premature
2021 death from heart disease or other complications, or to kidney
2122 failure, requiring dialysis or a transplant to sustain life; early
2223 detection and management can prevent or slow the progression of
2324 chronic kidney disease and decrease health care expenditures
2425 associated with advanced kidney disease; moreover, the Texas
2526 Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force has developed a state plan for
2627 chronic kidney disease treatment that has the potential to save
2728 lives and reduce the financial burden of the disease; and
2829 WHEREAS, Many medical professionals, organizations, and
2930 volunteers in the state are committed to ensuring the highest
3031 quality of care for kidney patients; the Texas Renal Coalition
3132 contributes significantly to this mission as it monitors health
3233 policies for dialysis and transplant patients, offers education
3334 programs to improve public awareness about the disease, and acts as
3435 a clearinghouse for information related to legislative issues; and
3536 WHEREAS, Benefiting from the dedication and leadership of
3637 Rita Littlefield, the Texas Renal Coalition, the Texas Chronic
3738 Kidney Disease Task Force, and their associates have made a
3839 positive difference in the lives of innumerable Texans, and it is
3940 most fitting to recognize Ms. Littlefield and these organizations
4041 for their achievements; now, therefore, be it
4142 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4243 Legislature hereby recognize February 12, 2025, as Rita L.
4344 Littlefield Kidney Day at the State Capitol.
