67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Family and friends were deeply saddened by the
89 passing of Mary Winifred Weingarth Newton on December 21, 2024, at
910 the age of 85; and
1011 WHEREAS, The daughter of Frederick Charles Weingarth II and
1112 Agnes Jelinek Weingarth, the former Mary Weingarth was born in
1213 Kansas City, Missouri, on October 20, 1939, and she grew up with the
1314 companionship of a brother, Frederick; after graduating from
1415 Littleton High School in Colorado in 1957, she earned a bachelor's
1516 degree in business education from Colorado State College; and
1617 WHEREAS, While attending college, she met Ronald James
1718 Newton, and the couple married in 1961; she took great pride in her
1819 children, Courtney and Brooke, and over the years, she had the
1920 pleasure of seeing her family grow to include four grandchildren,
2021 Taylor, Grace, Sam, and Hazel; and
2122 WHEREAS, Mrs. Newton enjoyed a rewarding career in
2223 education, teaching at schools in Colorado, California, and
2324 Wyoming; she also cofounded a craft consignment shop and
2425 established a coffee and tea shop, a restaurant, and a mall antiques
2526 booth; a respected business owner for three decades, she taught
2627 entrepreneurship at the Texas A&M University College of Business;
2728 and
2829 WHEREAS, Mrs. Newton served as a board member and recruiter
2930 for the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce, and she further
3031 distinguished herself as alumni advisor and president of the house
3132 corporation board for the Alpha Phi International Fraternity's
3233 Epsilon Omega chapter at A&M; in addition, she was involved in the
3334 Bluebonnet Psychiatric Center, the Boys Clubs of Brazos County, and
3435 the American Red Cross, and she contributed to philanthropic
3536 efforts at East Carolina University; after settling in Coppell in
3637 2017, she joined women's groups at St. Ann Catholic Parish; and
3738 WHEREAS, Admired for her generosity, her outgoing nature, and
3839 her devotion to her family, Mary Newton lived a caring and
3940 purposeful life, and she leaves behind a record of service that her
4041 loved ones can remember with pride; now, therefore, be it
4142 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4243 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Mary Winifred
4344 Weingarth Newton and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn her
4445 passing; and, be it further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4748 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary
4849 Newton.
