67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Shelley Smith, the longtime chief executive officer
89 of West Texas Centers in Big Spring, retired on July 12, 2024, after
910 40 years of dedicated service to the community mental health
1011 center; and
1112 WHEREAS, Ms. Smith accepted the role of CEO in May 1996;
1213 under her guidance, the center experienced significant growth, and
1314 it continues to be a major regional provider of services related to
1415 mental health and intellectual and developmental disabilities,
1516 including an early childhood intervention program; and
1617 WHEREAS, Today, West Texas Centers serves a 23-county area,
1718 employs nearly 325 people, and treats more than 2,000 patients and
1819 their families every month at 35 locations; throughout her tenure
1920 as CEO, Ms. Smith kept the well-being of the organization's clients
2021 at the forefront of her decision-making, and she set an inspiring
2122 example for staff through her exemplary work ethic and unwavering
2223 compassion; and
2324 WHEREAS, Over the past four decades, Shelley Smith made a
2425 meaningful difference in the lives of the individuals and families
2526 served by West Texas Centers, and she may indeed reflect with pride
2627 on her contributions as she embarks on a well-deserved retirement;
2728 now, therefore, be it
2829 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
2930 Legislature hereby honor Shelley Smith on the occasion of her
3031 retirement as CEO of West Texas Centers and extend to her sincere
3132 best wishes for the future; and, be it further
3233 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3334 prepared for Ms. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3435 House of Representatives.
