67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, A life lived with joy and purpose drew to a close
89 with the passing of Alma Jewel Pryor of Dallas on January 31, 2025,
910 at the age of 84; and
1011 WHEREAS, Born on February 12, 1940, Alma Pryor was a woman of
1112 devout faith and an admired member of her community; as the wife of
1213 Pastor George Pryor for more than six decades, she served as the
1314 founding first lady of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in
1415 Dallas, and she touched countless lives through the spiritual
1516 guidance she provided to the congregation; she was the founding
1617 director of the children, youth, and young adult ministry, and she
1718 demonstrated her leadership and passion for service in a variety of
1819 other capacities at the church; and
1920 WHEREAS, Beyond her responsibilities to the church,
2021 Mrs. Pryor was active in the Dallas Regional District Association,
2122 which her husband served as moderator, and she led the Metropolitan
2223 Ministers' Wives as president for many years; in addition, she was a
2324 licensed cosmetologist and professional hairstylist, and she drew
2425 on her entrepreneurial talents as a wholesale buyer at the Dallas
2526 Market Center; and
2627 WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to her family, Mrs. Pryor was the
2728 mother of four children, Pamela, Darrell, Michael, and Tammy, and
2829 she relished her roles as a grandmother, great-grandmother, and
2930 great-great-grandmother; and
3031 WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Alma Pryor will
3132 long remember her abiding commitment to her family, her church, and
3233 the wider community, and she is greatly missed by those who were
3334 fortunate enough to share in her love and friendship; now,
3435 therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3637 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alma Jewel Pryor and
3738 extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn her passing; and, be it
3839 further
3940 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4041 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4142 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Alma Jewel
4243 Pryor.
