67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
89 memories of John Lee Sullivan of Galveston, who passed away on
910 December 24, 2024, at the age of 84; and
1011 WHEREAS, Born in Galveston to John and Bernice Sullivan on
1112 March 19, 1940, John Sullivan graduated from Ball High School in
1213 1958, and he went on to attend Texas A&M University, where he earned
1314 a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics; he completed
1415 postgraduate work in real estate at The University of Texas; and
1516 WHEREAS, Mr. Sullivan worked for the Texas General Land
1617 Office and the Texas Veterans Land Board before returning to
1718 Galveston to establish the real estate firm Sullivan and
1819 Associates; he later cofounded the land development company
1920 Sullivan Enterprises with his brother, Gerald, and among their
2021 numerous developments were Campeche Cove Residential Subdivision,
2122 Westgate Shopping Center, and Newport Galveston; while
2223 Mr. Sullivan's many businesses encompassed the real estate,
2324 maritime, and investment industries, his true love was ranching,
2425 and he owned Sullivan Land and Cattle Company and was a valued
2526 member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association;
2627 and
2728 WHEREAS, A fifth-generation Galvestonian, Mr. Sullivan took
2829 great pride in his hometown and its history; he served on the
2930 Galveston City Council, and he held leadership roles with a number
3031 of organizations, including the Galveston Regional Chamber of
3132 Commerce, the Galveston Association of Realtors, and the Galveston
3233 College Board of Regents; he was also a lifelong member of
3334 First Lutheran Church of Galveston; and
3435 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Sullivan enjoyed the love
3536 and support of his wife, Cindy, with whom he shared a rewarding
3637 marriage that spanned 53 years; he was the father of three children,
3738 Kathryn, Elizabeth, and John, and he had the pleasure of seeing his
3839 family grow to include eight grandchildren; and
3940 WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his
4041 community, John Sullivan earned the lasting respect and admiration
4142 of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4344 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of John Lee Sullivan and
4445 extend heartfelt condolences to his loved ones; and, be it further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4748 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John
4849 Sullivan.
