7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |

8 | 9 | | memories of John Lee Sullivan of Galveston, who passed away on |

9 | 10 | | December 24, 2024, at the age of 84; and |

10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Born in Galveston to John and Bernice Sullivan on |
---|
11 | 12 | | March 19, 1940, John Sullivan graduated from Ball High School in |
---|
12 | 13 | | 1958, and he went on to attend Texas A&M University, where he earned |
---|
13 | 14 | | a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics; he completed |
---|
14 | 15 | | postgraduate work in real estate at The University of Texas; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Sullivan worked for the Texas General Land |
---|
16 | 17 | | Office and the Texas Veterans Land Board before returning to |
---|
17 | 18 | | Galveston to establish the real estate firm Sullivan and |
---|
18 | 19 | | Associates; he later cofounded the land development company |
---|
19 | 20 | | Sullivan Enterprises with his brother, Gerald, and among their |
---|
20 | 21 | | numerous developments were Campeche Cove Residential Subdivision, |
---|
21 | 22 | | Westgate Shopping Center, and Newport Galveston; while |
---|
22 | 23 | | Mr. Sullivan's many businesses encompassed the real estate, |
---|
23 | 24 | | maritime, and investment industries, his true love was ranching, |
---|
24 | 25 | | and he owned Sullivan Land and Cattle Company and was a valued |
---|
25 | 26 | | member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association; |
---|

27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A fifth-generation Galvestonian, Mr. Sullivan took |
---|
28 | 29 | | great pride in his hometown and its history; he served on the |
---|
29 | 30 | | Galveston City Council, and he held leadership roles with a number |
---|
30 | 31 | | of organizations, including the Galveston Regional Chamber of |
---|
31 | 32 | | Commerce, the Galveston Association of Realtors, and the Galveston |
---|
32 | 33 | | College Board of Regents; he was also a lifelong member of |
---|
33 | 34 | | First Lutheran Church of Galveston; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Sullivan enjoyed the love |
---|
35 | 36 | | and support of his wife, Cindy, with whom he shared a rewarding |
---|
36 | 37 | | marriage that spanned 53 years; he was the father of three children, |
---|
37 | 38 | | Kathryn, Elizabeth, and John, and he had the pleasure of seeing his |
---|
38 | 39 | | family grow to include eight grandchildren; and |
---|
39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his |
---|
40 | 41 | | community, John Sullivan earned the lasting respect and admiration |
---|
41 | 42 | | of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of John Lee Sullivan and |
---|
44 | 45 | | extend heartfelt condolences to his loved ones; and, be it further |
---|
45 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
46 | 47 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
47 | 48 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John |
---|
48 | 49 | | Sullivan. |
