7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

8 | 9 | | passing of Azucena Rodriguez Barrera of Robstown on January 28, |

9 | 10 | | 2025, at the age of 95; and |

10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Felix Rodriguez and Isabel Guajardo |
---|
11 | 12 | | Rodriguez, the former "Tena" Rodriguez was born in Robstown on |
---|
12 | 13 | | August 24, 1929; her parents instilled in her the values of faith, |
---|
13 | 14 | | perseverance, and hard work, and from an early age, she joined in |
---|
14 | 15 | | their endeavors at Goodridge Cleaners; she married the love of her |
---|
15 | 16 | | life, Gregorio "Gollo" Barrera, in January 1946, and they were |
---|
16 | 17 | | blessed with two treasured children, Rene and Hilda; a devoted |
---|
17 | 18 | | mother, she sewed clothes for her son and daughter, cooked |
---|
18 | 19 | | wonderful meals, and surrounded them with boundless affection; she |
---|
19 | 20 | | was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, When her offspring were older, Mrs. Barrera began |
---|
21 | 22 | | working alongside her husband at Pena's Café; they dreamed of |
---|
22 | 23 | | owning a restaurant themselves, and in 1978, they opened Barrera's |
---|
23 | 24 | | Fried Chicken in Robstown; she greeted everyone with a radiant |
---|
24 | 25 | | smile and remembered the favorite orders of the many loyal |
---|
25 | 26 | | regulars; gracious and elegant, she was always perfectly coiffed; |
---|

27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Barrera was dedicated above all to her family, |
---|
28 | 29 | | and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of |
---|
29 | 30 | | tremendous pride and joy; "Memo" attended all their school events |
---|
30 | 31 | | and celebrations, and she kept her pantry stocked with their |
---|
31 | 32 | | favorite snacks and her television tuned to their favorite shows; |
---|
32 | 33 | | while spending happy afternoons playing Lotería, she taught the |
---|
33 | 34 | | younger generations the beauty of the Spanish language and imparted |
---|
34 | 35 | | the same strong values of her youth; she and her husband shared a |
---|
35 | 36 | | fulfilling relationship until his passing; and |
---|
36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Tena Barrera led a caring life that was rich in the |
---|
37 | 38 | | intangibles that matter most, and although she is deeply missed, |
---|
38 | 39 | | her loved ones will treasure her legacy of laughter, wisdom, and |
---|
39 | 40 | | unwavering devotion to family and faith; now, therefore, be it |
---|
40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

41 | 42 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Azucena Rodriguez |

42 | 43 | | Barrera and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to |

43 | 44 | | her children, Rene Barrera Sr. and his wife, Velma, and Hilda Salas; |

44 | 45 | | to her sister, Norma Salinas; to her grandchildren, Rene Barrera |

45 | 46 | | Jr., Dr. Mandy Barrera, Agustin Barrera, and Arturo Salas Jr.; to |
