| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Allen are gathering in Austin on |

| 8 | 9 | | February 27, 2025, to celebrate City of Allen Day at the State |

| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The community's location in southwestern Collin |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | County was first inhabited by the Caddo, Kiowa, and Comanche |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | people, and later, immigrants of European descent, who were drawn |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | to the area's fertile land and plentiful water; in 1870, the city |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | was established by the Houston and Texas Central Railway and named |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | for Ebenezer Allen, former attorney general of Texas; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, After the Houston and Texas Central Railway |

| 17 | 18 | | constructed a stone dam, water tower, and pump house on Cottonwood |

| 18 | 19 | | Creek, the town became a commercial center for local farmers, who |

| 19 | 20 | | were able to more easily transport their products; the railroad |

| 20 | 21 | | helped usher in an era of significant growth for the city, which by |

| 21 | 22 | | 1884 had a population estimated at 350, three churches, a school, a |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Today, Allen is a vibrant and diverse community with |

| 24 | 25 | | a population of more than 100,000 people, and its economy benefits |

| 25 | 26 | | from the financial services, information technology, professional |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | services, and telecommunications industries; moreover, it is home |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | to the Collin College Technical Campus and is in close proximity to |

| 28 | 29 | | The University of Texas at Dallas, UT Southwestern Medical Center, |

| 29 | 30 | | and many other leading universities; and |

| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, With its abundance of natural beauty, visitors and |

| 31 | 32 | | residents alike enjoy nearly 2,000 acres of parkland, more than 80 |

| 32 | 33 | | miles of hike-and-bike trails, and numerous recreation facilities, |

| 33 | 34 | | including a municipal golf course, an aquatic center, and one of the |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | state's largest outdoor skate parks; other attractions include |

| 35 | 36 | | musical, dance, and theatrical productions by the Allen Arts |

| 36 | 37 | | Alliance, and the Credit Union of Texas Event Center is home to the |

| 37 | 38 | | Allen Americans hockey team and the Dallas Sidekicks soccer team; |

| 39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Boasting a rich history, thriving cultural |

| 42 | 43 | | citizens may indeed take pride in the place they call home; now, |

| 44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 45 | 46 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 27, 2025, as City of Allen |
