| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Members of Preservation Texas are gathering in |

| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1985, Preservation Texas is dedicated to |

| 11 | 12 | | empowering Texans to protect their cultural heritage; the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | organization is headquartered in San Marcos and maintains regional |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | offices in Tyler and El Paso; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Preservation Texas raises awareness of the state's |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | prehistory and history, fostering understanding of the lives of |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | those who came before us; it also engages in historical and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | archaeological research and educates both professionals and the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | general public on issues that impact preservation; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, A steward of significant buildings, collections, |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | and cultural landscapes, PT maintains a number of important sites, |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | including the Bassett Farm in Falls and Limestone Counties; its |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Texas Rural African-American Heritage Grants Program, made |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | possible through funding from the National Park Service, supports |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | the rehabilitation of historic African-American institutional |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | buildings in small towns; in Falls County, the organization |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | conducts hands-on work to conserve the Hopewell Freedom Colony, |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | which features an official Historic Texas Cemetery and extensive |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | archaeological resources; in addition, PT serves as fiscal sponsor |

| 29 | 30 | | for the Dr. James Lee Dickey House reconstruction project in |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | Taylor, among others; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Since 2004, Preservation Texas has compiled its |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | signature Most Endangered Places list, which spotlights historic |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | places that are threatened by neglect, impending demolition, |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | inappropriate alteration, or a radical loss of context; the |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | attention garnered assists local advocates across the state, and |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | the organization also offers technical assistance and letters of |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | support; this endeavor has contributed to the survival of more than |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | 90 percent of the nearly 200 sites listed; and |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Our state's cultural heritage is a source of |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | tremendous pride to all Texans, and over the course of four decades, |
|---|
| 41 | 42 | | Preservation Texas has played a vital role in safeguarding this |
|---|
| 42 | 43 | | legacy for generations to come; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 44 | 45 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 19, 2025, as Preservation |

| 45 | 46 | | Texas Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the |
|---|
| 46 | 47 | | visiting delegation; and, be it further |

| 47 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
