| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Located alongside the Rio Grande in the southwestern |

| 11 | 12 | | portion of Hidalgo County, Sullivan City was founded in 1908; it was |

| 12 | 13 | | named for Captain Ed Sullivan, who owned a ranch in the area that |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | later became a loading station on the Missouri Pacific Railroad; at |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | the end of the 20th century, the town's population totaled more than |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | 2,300; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Today, Sullivan City is home to nearly 4,000 people, |

| 17 | 18 | | and its economy benefits from the educational services, health |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | care, and retail industries; neighboring communities include |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Harlingen, McAllen, and Reynosa, Mexico, and residents and visitors |

| 20 | 21 | | alike enjoy nearby attractions such as the National Butterfly |

| 21 | 22 | | Center, the McAllen Heritage Center, and Fordyce Nature and Hiking |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In addition, the community is ably led by its city |

| 24 | 25 | | council, which includes mayor Alma Dalia Salinas, mayor pro tem |

| 25 | 26 | | Ramon Moreno, and members Rene Peña, Nicholas Cerda, and Ruben |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Sullivan City are working to |

| 28 | 29 | | preserve the best of their past while building a future of expanding |

| 29 | 30 | | opportunity, and it is indeed fitting to honor them for their unique |

| 30 | 31 | | contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 6, 2025, as Sullivan City Day at |
