| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of 150 years, Prairie View A&M |

| 8 | 9 | | University has established itself as an outstanding educational |

| 9 | 10 | | resource and a force for social progress in the Lone Star State; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Founded under the Morrill Land Grant College Act and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | the Texas Constitution in 1876, Prairie View A&M University is one |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | of the state's oldest public institutions of higher learning; the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | school was originally opened to provide for the education of |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | African Americans, and it is today among the largest historically |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Black colleges and universities in the nation; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Graduates of Prairie View A&M University have |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | achieved prominence in such fields as education, business, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | medicine, engineering, science, law, and the military; the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | institution currently offers more than 70 degree programs, and it |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | provides opportunities for students to broaden their intellectual |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | horizons and develop valuable skills by participating in study |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | abroad programs, service learning projects, cultural training |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | initiatives, and other rewarding experiences; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Prairie View A&M posted an enrollment of nearly |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | 9,900 students during the fall 2024 semester, surpassing its |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | previous record; the school currently ranks among the top |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | universities for graduating African Americans with degrees in |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | architecture, engineering, marketing, and agriculture, as well as |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | one of the best value institutions in the State of Texas; in |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | addition, it is among just 11 HBCUs to have attained an R2 |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | designation from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | Higher Education for high research activity; and |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Prairie View A&M University has excelled in its |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | mission to provide students with a strong foundation on which to |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | build successful careers and fulfilling lives, and it is a |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | privilege to join in recognizing the institution on this special |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it |

| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 150th anniversary of Prairie |

| 40 | 41 | | View A&M University and extend to the school's administrators, |

| 41 | 42 | | faculty, staff, students, and alumni sincere best wishes for the |
