67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service has
89 drawn to a close with the death of Thomas Neil Maddox Sr. of
910 Pineland on February 13, 2025, at the age of 75; and
1011 WHEREAS, Tom Maddox was born on September 11, 1949, in
1112 Henderson, to Oscar and Mildred Maddox, and he grew up with the
1213 companionship of two brothers, Eric and Glen, and two sisters,
1314 Gloria and Elesa; he went on to share a fulfilling marriage with his
1415 wife, Barbara, before her death in 2011, and they were blessed with
1516 three children, Thomas, Carmen, and Cindy; and
1617 WHEREAS, Mr. Maddox worked as a Texas Department of Public
1718 Safety officer for 30 years, earning the rank of corporal before his
1819 retirement; in 2001, he was elected sheriff of Sabine County, and he
1920 held that office for more than 24 years until his passing; along the
2021 way, he served two terms as president of the Sheriffs' Association
2122 of Texas, where he advocated for border safety and law enforcement
2223 initiatives; and
2324 WHEREAS, Engaged in his community, Sheriff Maddox was a
2425 member of Redland Masonic Lodge No. 3 in San Augustine and the
2526 Shriners and Scottish Rite; he participated in Pineland Day events,
2627 and he was honored as Citizen of the Year for his dedication;
2728 moreover, he served with the Pineland Volunteer Fire Department and
2829 the Sabine County Go Texas Cook-Off Team, and he established the
2930 D.A.R.E. program in Sabine County schools; and
3031 WHEREAS, In his free time, Sheriff Maddox enjoyed hunting,
3132 fishing, and coaching Little League baseball and girls' softball;
3233 above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, and he was a
3334 longtime congregant of Hemphill Church of Christ; and
3435 WHEREAS, Tom Maddox touched the lives of countless people
3536 through his more than five decades of exceptional public service,
3637 and he has left behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by
3738 all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Sheriff Thomas Neil
4041 Maddox Sr. and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his
4142 family: to his son, Thomas Neil Maddox Jr., and his fiancée, Casey
4243 Ashimine; to his daughters, Carmen Willis and her husband, Brad,
4344 and Cindy Burns and her husband, Joey; to his companion, Sue
4445 Bohannon; to his brother, Glen Maddox, and his wife, Cindy; to his
4546 sister, Elesa Detting; to his six grandchildren and two
4647 great-grandchildren; and to his many other relatives and friends;
4748 and, be it further
4849 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4950 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5051 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Tom Maddox.
