7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Ann Manning of Lubbock is being presented with a |

8 | 9 | | Distinguished Alumni Award by the Texas Tech University School of |

9 | 10 | | Law at its annual gala on March 1, 2025; and |
---|
10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, A member of the School of Law's Class of 1984, |
---|
11 | 12 | | Ms. Manning completed her bachelor's degree at Texas Tech as well; |
---|
12 | 13 | | she is the managing shareholder of Underwood Law's Lubbock office |
---|
13 | 14 | | and the only attorney in the city who is certified in labor and |
---|
14 | 15 | | employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, For more than 35 years, Ms. Manning has represented |
---|
16 | 17 | | the Lubbock Independent School District; she works closely with a |
---|
17 | 18 | | number of school districts on such matters as employment contracts, |
---|
18 | 19 | | wage disputes, discipline, student privacy, and open government |
---|
19 | 20 | | law; widely known for her expertise, she has presented at annual |
---|
20 | 21 | | seminars for districts on pressing legal topics, and she is a Texas |
---|
21 | 22 | | Education Association Certified Provider of Continuing Education |
---|
22 | 23 | | for both school boards and educators; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Manning represents many other longtime clients, |
---|
24 | 25 | | including employers, universities, churches, and financial |
---|
25 | 26 | | institutions; her work has often been cited, forming a valuable |
---|
26 | 27 | | contribution to case law; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to her profession, Ms. Manning has held a |

28 | 29 | | number of leadership roles, including board member for the State |
---|
29 | 30 | | Bar of Texas School Law Section and chair of the Texas Council of |
---|
30 | 31 | | School Attorneys; her accomplishments have earned her recognition |
---|
31 | 32 | | for many consecutive years by "Texas Super Lawyers" and "Best |
---|
32 | 33 | | Lawyers in America"; moreover, she was named a top attorney in |
---|
33 | 34 | | employment law by Texas Monthly, and in 2016 the Lubbock YWCA |

34 | 35 | | selected her as a Women of Excellence honoree; and |

35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, For more than four decades, Ann Manning has upheld |

36 | 37 | | the highest standards of her profession, and she is truly deserving |

37 | 38 | | of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |

38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Ann Manning on receiving a |
