67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Ann Manning of Lubbock is being presented with a
89 Distinguished Alumni Award by the Texas Tech University School of
910 Law at its annual gala on March 1, 2025; and
1011 WHEREAS, A member of the School of Law's Class of 1984,
1112 Ms. Manning completed her bachelor's degree at Texas Tech as well;
1213 she is the managing shareholder of Underwood Law's Lubbock office
1314 and the only attorney in the city who is certified in labor and
1415 employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization; and
1516 WHEREAS, For more than 35 years, Ms. Manning has represented
1617 the Lubbock Independent School District; she works closely with a
1718 number of school districts on such matters as employment contracts,
1819 wage disputes, discipline, student privacy, and open government
1920 law; widely known for her expertise, she has presented at annual
2021 seminars for districts on pressing legal topics, and she is a Texas
2122 Education Association Certified Provider of Continuing Education
2223 for both school boards and educators; and
2324 WHEREAS, Ms. Manning represents many other longtime clients,
2425 including employers, universities, churches, and financial
2526 institutions; her work has often been cited, forming a valuable
2627 contribution to case law; and
2728 WHEREAS, Dedicated to her profession, Ms. Manning has held a
2829 number of leadership roles, including board member for the State
2930 Bar of Texas School Law Section and chair of the Texas Council of
3031 School Attorneys; her accomplishments have earned her recognition
3132 for many consecutive years by "Texas Super Lawyers" and "Best
3233 Lawyers in America"; moreover, she was named a top attorney in
3334 employment law by Texas Monthly, and in 2016 the Lubbock YWCA
3435 selected her as a Women of Excellence honoree; and
3536 WHEREAS, For more than four decades, Ann Manning has upheld
3637 the highest standards of her profession, and she is truly deserving
3738 of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby congratulate Ann Manning on receiving a
4041 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Texas Tech University School of
4142 Law and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success;
4243 and, be it further
4344 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4445 prepared for Ms. Manning as an expression of high regard by the
4546 Texas House of Representatives.
