67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Dr. Debra Patt has received the Physician Advocacy
89 Champion Award from the U.S. Oncology Network; and
910 WHEREAS, Dr. Patt is a medical oncologist and breast cancer
1011 specialist at Texas Oncology, where she also serves as the
1112 executive vice president of policy and strategic initiatives; in
1213 her clinical practice, she conducts breast cancer research, and she
1314 also has created a variety of innovative health care informatics
1415 tools, including a mechanism that allows patients to communicate
1516 real-time symptoms to their care team; and
1617 WHEREAS, The president of the Community Oncology Alliance,
1718 Dr. Patt has played an instrumental role in raising awareness about
1819 such critical issues as prior authorization hurdles as well as the
1920 need for pharmacy benefit manager reform and sustainable
2021 reimbursement models; she has utilized her vast clinical expertise
2122 to bridge the gap between medicine and policy, having testified
2223 before the United States Congress on a number of occasions; in
2324 addition, she has chaired both the council on legislation and the
2425 cancer committee for the Texas Medical Association; and
2526 WHEREAS, Dr. Patt further acts as a leader in her
2627 professional community through her service on the board of
2728 directors and the artificial intelligence task force of the
2829 American Society of Clinical Oncology; she has also served as the
2930 inaugural editor-in-chief of JCO Clinical Cancer Informatics, and
3031 she has mentored many young physicians; she has received numerous
3132 accolades in recognition of her contributions, including the ASCO
3233 Conquer Cancer Young Investigator Award and Fellow of the Year in
3334 research from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center;
3435 she was also recognized as one of Austin's Top Doctors in oncology
3536 and hematology by Austin Monthly in 2021; and
3637 WHEREAS, Dr. Patt holds a bachelor's degree in zoology from
3738 The University of Texas at Austin as well as master's degrees in
3839 public health from The University of Texas Health Science Center at
3940 Houston and business administration from UT Austin; she earned her
4041 medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine, where she went on to
4142 complete her residency in internal medicine and pediatrics; she
4243 undertook a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the UT
4344 MD Anderson Cancer Center, and she also received a doctorate in
4445 health economics and health services research from the UTHealth
4546 Houston School of Public Health; moreover, she gained additional
4647 experience through the Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program at the
4748 National Cancer Institute; and
4849 WHEREAS, Over the course of her career, Dr. Patt has
4950 tirelessly advocated for the improvement of patient care while
5051 conducting research vital to the advancement of the medical field,
5152 and it is indeed fitting to honor her for her service to the people
5253 of Texas; now, therefore, be it
5354 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
5455 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Debra Patt on receiving the
5556 Physician Advocacy Champion Award from the U.S. Oncology Network
5657 and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success with her
5758 important work; and, be it further
5859 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for
5960 Dr. Patt as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
6061 Representatives.
