7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Debra Patt has received the Physician Advocacy |

8 | 9 | | Champion Award from the U.S. Oncology Network; and |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Patt is a medical oncologist and breast cancer |

10 | 11 | | specialist at Texas Oncology, where she also serves as the |

11 | 12 | | executive vice president of policy and strategic initiatives; in |
---|
12 | 13 | | her clinical practice, she conducts breast cancer research, and she |
---|
13 | 14 | | also has created a variety of innovative health care informatics |
---|
14 | 15 | | tools, including a mechanism that allows patients to communicate |
---|
15 | 16 | | real-time symptoms to their care team; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The president of the Community Oncology Alliance, |
---|
17 | 18 | | Dr. Patt has played an instrumental role in raising awareness about |
---|
18 | 19 | | such critical issues as prior authorization hurdles as well as the |
---|
19 | 20 | | need for pharmacy benefit manager reform and sustainable |
---|
20 | 21 | | reimbursement models; she has utilized her vast clinical expertise |
---|
21 | 22 | | to bridge the gap between medicine and policy, having testified |
---|
22 | 23 | | before the United States Congress on a number of occasions; in |
---|
23 | 24 | | addition, she has chaired both the council on legislation and the |
---|
24 | 25 | | cancer committee for the Texas Medical Association; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Patt further acts as a leader in her |
---|
26 | 27 | | professional community through her service on the board of |
---|
27 | 28 | | directors and the artificial intelligence task force of the |
---|
28 | 29 | | American Society of Clinical Oncology; she has also served as the |
---|
29 | 30 | | inaugural editor-in-chief of JCO Clinical Cancer Informatics, and |
---|
30 | 31 | | she has mentored many young physicians; she has received numerous |
---|
31 | 32 | | accolades in recognition of her contributions, including the ASCO |
---|
32 | 33 | | Conquer Cancer Young Investigator Award and Fellow of the Year in |
---|
33 | 34 | | research from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center; |

34 | 35 | | she was also recognized as one of Austin's Top Doctors in oncology |

35 | 36 | | and hematology by Austin Monthly in 2021; and |

36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Patt holds a bachelor's degree in zoology from |

37 | 38 | | The University of Texas at Austin as well as master's degrees in |

38 | 39 | | public health from The University of Texas Health Science Center at |
---|
39 | 40 | | Houston and business administration from UT Austin; she earned her |
---|
40 | 41 | | medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine, where she went on to |

41 | 42 | | complete her residency in internal medicine and pediatrics; she |

42 | 43 | | undertook a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the UT |
---|
43 | 44 | | MD Anderson Cancer Center, and she also received a doctorate in |

44 | 45 | | health economics and health services research from the UTHealth |
---|
45 | 46 | | Houston School of Public Health; moreover, she gained additional |
---|
46 | 47 | | experience through the Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program at the |
---|
47 | 48 | | National Cancer Institute; and |

48 | 49 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of her career, Dr. Patt has |

49 | 50 | | tirelessly advocated for the improvement of patient care while |
---|
50 | 51 | | conducting research vital to the advancement of the medical field, |

51 | 52 | | and it is indeed fitting to honor her for her service to the people |
---|
52 | 53 | | of Texas; now, therefore, be it |

53 | 54 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

54 | 55 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Debra Patt on receiving the |
---|
55 | 56 | | Physician Advocacy Champion Award from the U.S. Oncology Network |

56 | 57 | | and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success with her |
