8 | 9 | | Jr. retired as vice president for student affairs at Texas A&M |

9 | 10 | | University on January 1, 2025, drawing to a close an exceptional |

10 | 11 | | tenure with the institution; and |
---|
11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Joe Ramirez earned a physical |
---|
12 | 13 | | education degree in 1979 from Texas A&M University, where he was a |
---|
13 | 14 | | member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band and the Corps of Cadets; he |
---|
14 | 15 | | later obtained a master's degree in management from Webster |
---|
15 | 16 | | University and a master's degree in strategic studies from the U.S. |
---|
16 | 17 | | Army War College; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Ramirez distinguished himself during a military |
---|
18 | 19 | | career of 31 years; he held leadership positions worldwide in joint |
---|
19 | 20 | | and operational commands, and he served as deputy chief of staff for |
---|
20 | 21 | | the U.S. Central Command during Operations Iraqi Freedom and |
---|
21 | 22 | | Enduring Freedom; moreover, he was the deputy division commander |
---|
22 | 23 | | for the 2nd Infantry Division in the Republic of Korea and a deputy |
---|
23 | 24 | | director for the United States European Command in Germany; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In 2010, General Ramirez returned to Texas A&M as |
---|
25 | 26 | | the 45th commandant of the Corps of Cadets; he dedicated himself to |
---|
26 | 27 | | mentoring the next generation of leaders, instilling in cadets the |
---|
27 | 28 | | values of discipline, honor, and service, and under his direction, |
---|
28 | 29 | | the Corps experienced its most significant growth since the early |
---|
29 | 30 | | 1970s; in 2021, he was appointed vice president for student |
---|
30 | 31 | | affairs, and in that role, he continued to positively impact the |
---|
31 | 32 | | lives of students and his colleagues; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Civically engaged, General Ramirez belongs to the |
---|
33 | 34 | | boards of such organizations as the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Brazos |
---|
34 | 35 | | Valley, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas, and the |
---|
35 | 36 | | Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce; retirement will afford |
---|
36 | 37 | | him the opportunity to spend more time with his wife, Theresa, and |
---|
37 | 38 | | their five children, four stepchildren, and eight grandchildren; |

39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Joe Ramirez's dedication, experience, and |

40 | 41 | | commitment to excellence have greatly benefited Texas A&M |

41 | 42 | | University and the military community, and he may indeed take pride |

42 | 43 | | in his outstanding record of service as he embarks on the next |
---|
43 | 44 | | exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |

44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

45 | 46 | | Legislature hereby congratulate U.S. Army Brigadier General (Ret.) |
