67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
89 a close with the passing of George S. Cavazos Sr. of Cameron County
910 on January 23, 2025, at the age of 85; and
1011 WHEREAS, George Cavazos was born in Weslaco on November 1,
1112 1939, to Ignacio and Matilde Cavazos, and he proudly served his
1213 country as a member of the U.S. Army; and
1314 WHEREAS, For more than 45 years, Mr. Cavazos worked as a truck
1415 driver; committed to his fellow citizens, he served as an alderman
1516 and as a member of the Santa Rosa Volunteer Fire Department; he also
1617 volunteered with the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Rodeo for
1718 over a quarter century and coached youth football games; he was a
1819 lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Santa Rosa; and
1920 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Cavazos was blessed with
2021 the love and support of his wife, Juanita, and they shared a
2122 rewarding marriage of nearly six decades; the couple raised 5
2223 children, Yvonne, George, Veronica, Patricia, and Edna, and they
2324 welcomed 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren into their
2425 treasured family; Mr. Cavazos enjoyed getting dressed up to go
2526 dancing with his wife, and he supported his children and
2627 grandchildren at their sports events and award ceremonies; he liked
2728 playing softball and golf, fishing, and deer hunting; above all, he
2829 cherished spending time with his loved ones at his parents' ranch in
2930 Progreso; and
3031 WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his
3132 community, George Cavazos earned the lasting respect and admiration
3233 of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
3334 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3435 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of George S. Cavazos
3536 Sr. and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his family:
3637 to his wife, Juanita G. Cavazos; to his children, Yvonne Gomez and
3738 her husband, Conrado, George Cavazos Jr., Veronica Ruiz and her
3839 husband, Danny, Patricia Cavazos-Torres and her husband, Hector,
3940 and Edna Olmedo and her husband, Rudy; to his grandchildren, Eric,
4041 Nyssa, Joe, Isaac, Jazlyn, Isabella, Jason, Ivan, Julius, and Noah;
4142 to his great-grandchildren, Luke and Sophia; to his siblings,
4243 Mirtala Garcia, Arnold, Ignacio, Juan, and Camilo Cavazos, and
4344 Matilde Cavazos Pinales; and to his other relatives and friends;
4445 and, be it further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4748 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of George
4849 Cavazos.
