67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, The ninth month of the Islamic calendar year,
89 Ramadan is a time when Muslims reinforce their spiritual beliefs by
910 fasting, worshipping, reading the Quran, practicing
1011 self-discipline, and helping the less fortunate; in 2025, Ramadan
1112 is beginning on March 1 with the expected appearance of the crescent
1213 moon and lasts for the remainder of the lunar month; and
1314 WHEREAS, During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from food and drink
1415 from sunrise until sunset in an effort to deepen their faith and to
1516 better understand the plight of the poor and hungry; Muslims break
1617 their daily fasts by sharing meals, known as iftars, with family and
1718 friends; and
1819 WHEREAS, Muslims have been a part of the fabric of America
1920 since the 1500s, when the first Muslims arrived as slaves with
2021 colonial expeditions; today, Islam is one of the world's major
2122 religions, with many followers across the United States and around
2223 the globe; and
2324 WHEREAS, While focusing on their spiritual growth during
2425 Ramadan, Muslims affirm their commitment to working toward the
2526 collective good of society and the well-being of people from all
2627 walks of life, and it is indeed fitting to acknowledge the
2728 significance of this special occasion to people of the Muslim faith
2829 who call Texas home; now, therefore, be it
2930 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3031 Legislature hereby recognize the holy month of Ramadan 2025 and
3132 extend to Muslims across the Lone Star State sincere best wishes for
3233 a joyous and meaningful observance.
