7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Communities In Schools of Texas has long made a |

8 | 9 | | positive difference in the lives of countless youth and their |
---|
9 | 10 | | families; and |
---|
10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The state's largest provider of school-based |
---|
11 | 12 | | behavioral health services for students, CIS of Texas was first |
---|
12 | 13 | | established in 1979, and during its 46 years in Texas, it has |
---|
13 | 14 | | expanded to include 27 affiliates located across the state; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, This notable organization builds relationships that |
---|
15 | 16 | | empower students to stay in school and succeed in life by applying a |
---|
16 | 17 | | multitiered system of support designed to help address chronic |
---|
17 | 18 | | absenteeism that can lead to low academic performance; through its |
---|
18 | 19 | | efforts to reengage students disconnected from school, CIS helps |
---|
19 | 20 | | close the achievement gap and improve student outcomes; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Of the more than 122,000 students served by CIS |
---|
21 | 22 | | during the last school year, 99 percent stayed in school, 98 percent |
---|
22 | 23 | | were promoted to the next grade, 91 percent improved in academics, |
---|
23 | 24 | | and 90 percent improved in behavior; in addition, 98 percent of |
---|
24 | 25 | | eligible seniors graduated; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Trained CIS staff and mental health professionals |
---|
26 | 27 | | provide trauma-informed interventions that alleviate emotional and |
---|
27 | 28 | | behavioral challenges, enhance coping skills, improve student |
---|
28 | 29 | | well-being and, in turn, scholastic achievement; CIS staff are more |
---|
29 | 30 | | involved than ever before in keeping schools and students safe by |
---|
30 | 31 | | offering services free of charge on school campuses, where students |
---|
31 | 32 | | are located; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, CIS affiliates leverage state funding with |
---|
33 | 34 | | additional public and private fundraising from local communities, |
---|
34 | 35 | | providing nearly five dollars in services for every dollar invested |
---|
35 | 36 | | by the state; this leveraging effect, which is unique to CIS, |
---|
36 | 37 | | multiplies the impact of state funding and allows CIS to assist more |
---|
37 | 38 | | students in need; and |
---|
38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Helping young Texans to prepare for successful |
---|
39 | 40 | | futures, Communities In Schools of Texas is a program of |
---|
40 | 41 | | immeasurable importance, and it is indeed appropriate to take this |
---|
41 | 42 | | opportunity to commend the group for the support it provides to |
---|
42 | 43 | | students in the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
---|
43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
44 | 45 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 4, 2025, as Communities In |
---|
45 | 46 | | Schools Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further |
---|
46 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

47 | 48 | | prepared for CIS of Texas as an expression of high regard by the |
