67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Communities In Schools of Texas has long made a
89 positive difference in the lives of countless youth and their
910 families; and
1011 WHEREAS, The state's largest provider of school-based
1112 behavioral health services for students, CIS of Texas was first
1213 established in 1979, and during its 46 years in Texas, it has
1314 expanded to include 27 affiliates located across the state; and
1415 WHEREAS, This notable organization builds relationships that
1516 empower students to stay in school and succeed in life by applying a
1617 multitiered system of support designed to help address chronic
1718 absenteeism that can lead to low academic performance; through its
1819 efforts to reengage students disconnected from school, CIS helps
1920 close the achievement gap and improve student outcomes; and
2021 WHEREAS, Of the more than 122,000 students served by CIS
2122 during the last school year, 99 percent stayed in school, 98 percent
2223 were promoted to the next grade, 91 percent improved in academics,
2324 and 90 percent improved in behavior; in addition, 98 percent of
2425 eligible seniors graduated; and
2526 WHEREAS, Trained CIS staff and mental health professionals
2627 provide trauma-informed interventions that alleviate emotional and
2728 behavioral challenges, enhance coping skills, improve student
2829 well-being and, in turn, scholastic achievement; CIS staff are more
2930 involved than ever before in keeping schools and students safe by
3031 offering services free of charge on school campuses, where students
3132 are located; and
3233 WHEREAS, CIS affiliates leverage state funding with
3334 additional public and private fundraising from local communities,
3435 providing nearly five dollars in services for every dollar invested
3536 by the state; this leveraging effect, which is unique to CIS,
3637 multiplies the impact of state funding and allows CIS to assist more
3738 students in need; and
3839 WHEREAS, Helping young Texans to prepare for successful
3940 futures, Communities In Schools of Texas is a program of
4041 immeasurable importance, and it is indeed appropriate to take this
4142 opportunity to commend the group for the support it provides to
4243 students in the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
4344 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4445 Legislature hereby recognize March 4, 2025, as Communities In
4546 Schools Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for CIS of Texas as an expression of high regard by the
4849 Texas House of Representatives.
