7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Bertha Rendon Delgado retired as a member of the |

8 | 9 | | City of Austin Community Development Commission on February 1, |

9 | 10 | | 2025, following nearly a decade of dedicated service; and |
---|
10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, A native of East Austin, Bertha Rendon Delgado grew |
---|
11 | 12 | | up in a family deeply rooted in activism and civic engagement; she |
---|
12 | 13 | | became its first member to attend college when she enrolled at |
---|
13 | 14 | | Huston-Tillotson University, and in 2012, she took over as |
---|
14 | 15 | | president of the East Town Lake Citizens Neighborhood Association; |
---|
15 | 16 | | in that role, she has dedicated herself to advocating for residents |
---|
16 | 17 | | of the East Side and preserving murals and other elements of Mexican |
---|
17 | 18 | | American culture; along the way, she has participated in protests |
---|
18 | 19 | | and taken to the front lines to advocate for social issues such as |
---|
19 | 20 | | criminal justice, affordable housing, economic opportunity, and |
---|
20 | 21 | | women's rights; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In 2016, Ms. Delgado joined the City of Austin |
---|
22 | 23 | | Community Development Commission, where she has continued to |
---|
23 | 24 | | champion housing solutions benefiting residents of the East Side; |
---|
24 | 25 | | over the course of her tenure, she has also distinguished herself in |
---|
25 | 26 | | her work as founder of Arte Texas and Save East Austin Schools, and |
---|
26 | 27 | | she has held prominent leadership and community service roles as |
---|
27 | 28 | | president of LULAC Council No. 4425, as a Travis County elections |
---|
28 | 29 | | deputy judge and deputy registrar, as a member of La Raza |
---|
29 | 30 | | Roundtable, and as a community liaison for The University of Texas; |
---|
30 | 31 | | moreover, she served as chair of Austin ISD's Equity Advisory |
---|
31 | 32 | | Committee and as a member of its Art Task Force Committee and she |
---|
32 | 33 | | has given generously of her time and talents to many other |
---|
33 | 34 | | organizations, such as the State Tejano Democrats and Tejano Music |
---|
34 | 35 | | Alliance of Texas; and |

35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous honors, Ms. Delgado was |
---|
36 | 37 | | named Woman of the Year for the State of Texas by LULAC in 2022 and |
---|
37 | 38 | | the organization's District 7 Austin Woman of the Year in 2021 and |
---|
38 | 39 | | 2022; her accolades further include the 2023 Emma S. Barrientos |

39 | 40 | | Mexican American Cultural Center Excellence Award for Service and |
---|
40 | 41 | | the 2024 Austin Woman Magazine Change Maker of the Year award; and |
---|
41 | 42 | | WHEREAS, Through her myriad civic contributions, Bertha |

42 | 43 | | Rendon Delgado has had a positive and profound impact in the lives |

43 | 44 | | of countless fellow Austinites, and it is a privilege to join in |
---|
44 | 45 | | recognizing an individual who has long been a force for good in her |
---|
45 | 46 | | community; now, therefore, be it |

46 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

47 | 48 | | Legislature hereby honor Bertha Rendon Delgado on her retirement |

48 | 49 | | from the City of Austin Community Development Commission and extend |

49 | 50 | | to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
