77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, The observance of World Autism Awareness Day on
99 April 2, 2025, provides a fitting opportunity to promote better
1010 understanding of autism and the issues faced by individuals living
1111 with the disorder; and
1212 WHEREAS, In 2007, WAAD was established by the United Nations
1313 as a platform to raise public awareness about the neurological
1414 condition and to highlight the need to improve quality of life for
1515 those with autism spectrum disorder; and
1616 WHEREAS, ASD encompasses a range of health conditions that
1717 can cause social, communication, and behavioral challenges; people
1818 experience the disorder to varying degrees, and symptoms can
1919 include being nonverbal, engaging in atypical speech patterns and
2020 repetitive behaviors, and having significantly high or low levels
2121 of sensitivity to various sensory stimuli; and
2222 WHEREAS, In recent years, many medical professionals and
2323 researchers have embraced the neurodiversity paradigm, moving away
2424 from the idea of "curing" autism and instead focusing on supporting
2525 those affected by it; in addition to helping restore dignity and
2626 self-esteem, this shift has allowed individuals with autism and
2727 their families to concentrate on securing access to the services
2828 they need; and
2929 WHEREAS, World Autism Awareness Day serves to foster an
3030 environment of compassion and acceptance for those impacted by this
3131 complex disorder, and all Texans are encouraged to affirm their
3232 commitment to this worthwhile goal; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3434 Legislature hereby recognize April 2, 2025, as World Autism
3535 Awareness Day.
