| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The observance of World Autism Awareness Day on |

| 9 | 9 | | April 2, 2025, provides a fitting opportunity to promote better |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | understanding of autism and the issues faced by individuals living |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | with the disorder; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In 2007, WAAD was established by the United Nations |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | as a platform to raise public awareness about the neurological |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | condition and to highlight the need to improve quality of life for |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | those with autism spectrum disorder; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, ASD encompasses a range of health conditions that |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | can cause social, communication, and behavioral challenges; people |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | experience the disorder to varying degrees, and symptoms can |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | include being nonverbal, engaging in atypical speech patterns and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | repetitive behaviors, and having significantly high or low levels |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | of sensitivity to various sensory stimuli; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In recent years, many medical professionals and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | researchers have embraced the neurodiversity paradigm, moving away |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | from the idea of "curing" autism and instead focusing on supporting |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | those affected by it; in addition to helping restore dignity and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | self-esteem, this shift has allowed individuals with autism and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | their families to concentrate on securing access to the services |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | they need; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, World Autism Awareness Day serves to foster an |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | environment of compassion and acceptance for those impacted by this |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | complex disorder, and all Texans are encouraged to affirm their |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | commitment to this worthwhile goal; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 2, 2025, as World Autism |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Awareness Day. |
