8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |

9 | 9 | | memories of Jennifer Joy Mattingly of Round Rock, who passed away on |

10 | 10 | | August 31, 2024, at the age of 66; and |

11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Dr. Joan Kitson Mattingly and Joseph |
---|
12 | 12 | | Francis Mattingly, Jennifer Mattingly was born in Louisville, |
---|
13 | 13 | | Kentucky, on June 7, 1958, and she grew up with the companionship of |
---|
14 | 14 | | two sisters, Janlyn and Jonna; after graduating early from |
---|
15 | 15 | | Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Massachusetts, she attended The |
---|
16 | 16 | | University of Texas at Austin and earned her bachelor's degree in |
---|
17 | 17 | | 1979 and her law degree in 1982; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Mattingly started her own practice in northwest |
---|
19 | 19 | | Austin in 1983, and she specialized in estate law, business |
---|
20 | 20 | | formation, landlord/tenant law, real estate and leases, elder care, |
---|
21 | 21 | | and general contracts; active in her community, she served as |
---|
22 | 22 | | Williamson County Precinct 1 justice of the peace from 1988 to 1990, |
---|
23 | 23 | | and she became involved in the City of Hutto Planning and Zoning |
---|
24 | 24 | | Commission in 1991 and was chair from 2000 to 2004; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Mattingly was a lifelong supporter of the |
---|
26 | 26 | | Democratic Party and a staunch advocate for civil rights, equality, |
---|
27 | 27 | | justice, and women's rights; she held leadership positions within |
---|
28 | 28 | | numerous organizations, including the Williamson County Democratic |
---|
29 | 29 | | Party, which she served as county chair and precinct 482 chair; in |
---|
30 | 30 | | addition, she was among the honored guests at President Bill |
---|
31 | 31 | | Clinton's 1993 inauguration as a Texas delegate, and she most |
---|
32 | 32 | | recently was a delegate to the 2024 Texas Democratic Convention; |
---|
33 | 33 | | and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, In all of her endeavors, Ms. Mattingly benefited |
---|
35 | 35 | | from the love and support of her husband, Craig Matthews, with whom |
---|
36 | 36 | | she shared a fulfilling relationship that spanned more than two and |
---|
37 | 37 | | a half decades, and her life was further enriched by her nephews, |
---|
38 | 38 | | Max, Jeremy, Kitson, and Jack, and her great-niece, Julianna; in |
---|
39 | 39 | | her leisure time, she enjoyed writing short stories, screenplays, |
---|
40 | 40 | | novels, and songs, as well as painting, bird-watching, and spending |
---|
41 | 41 | | time outdoors; and |
---|
42 | 42 | | WHEREAS, While the death of Jennifer Mattingly brings great |
---|
43 | 43 | | sadness to her family and friends, she leaves behind a legacy that |
---|
44 | 44 | | will long be treasured by all those who held her dear; now, |
---|
45 | 45 | | therefore, be it |
---|
46 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
47 | 47 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jennifer Joy |
---|
48 | 48 | | Mattingly and extend sincere condolences to her loved ones; and, be |
---|
49 | 49 | | it further |

50 | 50 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

51 | 51 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
