| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The celebration of University of Houston-Downtown |

| 8 | 9 | | Day at the State Capitol on February 26, 2025, provides a fitting |

| 9 | 10 | | opportunity to recognize this notable institution; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1974, the University of |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Houston-Downtown has built a reputation as a welcoming campus with |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | an accessible location in the heart of Houston; the university |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | serves more than 14,000 students annually and boasts over 71,000 |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | alumni, and it benefits from the able leadership of its seventh |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | president, Dr. Loren J. Blanchard; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The student body at UHD is highly representative of |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | the vibrant Houston community; approximately 70 percent of the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | university's freshmen are first-generation college students, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | 58 percent receive Pell Grants, and 65 percent transfer from |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | partnering community colleges; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Today, UHD offers 45 bachelor's degrees, 12 master's |

| 22 | 23 | | degrees, and 24 opportunities for online degree completion, |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | including five graduate programs; moreover, the institution has |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | been designated a comprehensive regional university by the Carnegie |

| 25 | 26 | | Classification of Institutions of Higher Education; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The university has four distinct academic colleges, |

| 27 | 28 | | including the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | College of Public Service, the College of Sciences and Technology, |

| 29 | 30 | | and the Marilyn Davies College of Business; currently, UHD is |

| 30 | 31 | | working to develop the Center for Crime, Urban Research, and |

| 31 | 32 | | Education to help shape the future of public safety in Southeast |

| 33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, UHD ranks as one of the most affordable institutions |

| 43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 26, 2025, as University of |
