67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Proud citizens of University Park celebrated the
89 100th anniversary of the incorporation of their city on April 12,
910 2024; and
1011 WHEREAS, Located five miles north of downtown Dallas,
1112 University Park began as a cluster of homes surrounding Southern
1213 Methodist University, which was founded in 1911 and offered its
1314 first classes in 1915; the residences were originally built to
1415 house the teachers and staff of the university, but by 1924, the
1516 area was home to more than 1,200 people, and SMU could no longer
1617 afford to supply water and sewer lines to the growing community;
1718 University Park was officially incorporated on April 12, 1924; and
1819 WHEREAS, Over the ensuing decades, University Park
1920 experienced significant development and population growth, and
2021 today, the community boasts more than 25,000 residents and is one of
2122 the Metroplex's most desirable neighborhoods; known for its
2223 attractive homes, beautiful parks, and numerous churches, the area
2324 benefits from its proximity to a wide range of cultural,
2425 recreational, and business activities; in addition to being one of
2526 the most affluent communities in the nation, the city is also home
2627 to one of its most highly educated populations; and
2728 WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich history as they work to build
2829 an even brighter future, the citizens of University Park are
2930 justifiably proud of their community, and it is indeed fitting to
3031 recognize the city's contributions to the Lone Star State; now,
3132 therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the
3435 incorporation of University Park and extend to its residents
3536 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
3637 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3738 prepared for the city as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3839 House of Representatives.
