| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Proud citizens of University Park celebrated the |

| 8 | 9 | | 100th anniversary of the incorporation of their city on April 12, |

| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Located five miles north of downtown Dallas, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | University Park began as a cluster of homes surrounding Southern |

| 12 | 13 | | Methodist University, which was founded in 1911 and offered its |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | first classes in 1915; the residences were originally built to |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | house the teachers and staff of the university, but by 1924, the |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | area was home to more than 1,200 people, and SMU could no longer |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | afford to supply water and sewer lines to the growing community; |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | University Park was officially incorporated on April 12, 1924; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Over the ensuing decades, University Park |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | experienced significant development and population growth, and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | today, the community boasts more than 25,000 residents and is one of |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | the Metroplex's most desirable neighborhoods; known for its |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | attractive homes, beautiful parks, and numerous churches, the area |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | benefits from its proximity to a wide range of cultural, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | recreational, and business activities; in addition to being one of |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | the most affluent communities in the nation, the city is also home |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | to one of its most highly educated populations; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich history as they work to build |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | an even brighter future, the citizens of University Park are |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | justifiably proud of their community, and it is indeed fitting to |

| 30 | 31 | | recognize the city's contributions to the Lone Star State; now, |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the |

| 35 | 36 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
