| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslim community |

| 9 | 9 | | are visiting the State Capitol on April 15, 2025; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Commonly known as the Ismailis, members of this |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | denomination belong to the Shia branch of Islam, one of the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | religion's two major interpretations; the Ismailis number as many |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | as 15 million in over 35 countries around the world; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The Ismailis have been guided by a hereditary imam |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | throughout a history that spans 1,400 years; their first leader, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Imam Ali, was a cousin and the son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad; |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | today, they benefit by the wisdom and compassion of the 50th imam, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, known to them as Mawlana Hazar |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Imam; a noted philanthropist, he meets regularly with leaders of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | government, international organizations, and civil society to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | strengthen their relations with the Ismaili Imamat and to advance |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | endeavors in behalf of the most vulnerable; he closely follows the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | work of the Institute of Ismaili Studies and the Ismaili |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | community's social governance institutions; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of the imam, the Ismailis have |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | created a well-defined institutional framework through which they |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | have established schools, hospitals, health centers, housing |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | organizations, and a variety of social and economic development |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | institutions; these efforts are undertaken for the common good of |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | all people, regardless of race or religion; Ismailis the world over |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | are committed to responsible citizenship, embracing pluralism, and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | building bridges of peace and understanding; and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Ismaili community in Texas express |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | their faith by giving generously of their time, talents, and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | material resources to improve the lives of others, and it is indeed |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | fitting to recognize their contributions; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 15, 2025, as Ismaili Day at the |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere best |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | wishes for a memorable and enjoyable experience in Austin. |
