| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Bangladeshi Day is taking place at the State Capitol |

| 8 | 9 | | on April 10, 2025, providing a welcome opportunity to honor the |

| 9 | 10 | | history and achievements of the people of Bangladesh, as well as the |

| 10 | 11 | | thousands of Bangladeshi Americans who make their homes in Texas; |

| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Located in the delta of the Ganges and Brahmaputra |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Rivers in the northeastern part of the Indian subcontinent, the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | area that now makes up Bangladesh was part of the province of Bengal |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | during the era of British colonial rule on the Indian subcontinent, |

| 16 | 17 | | from the mid-18th to mid-20th centuries; the region became part of |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Pakistan following the partition of India in 1947; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In 1971, Bangladesh gained its independence, and its |

| 19 | 20 | | capital was established at Dhaka; over the past half century, the |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | country's economy has become one of the fastest growing in the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | world; new developments in agricultural practices have increased |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | production of rice, jute, tea, and other products; moreover, the |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | garment industry is integral to national commerce, employing |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | millions of people; while Bangladesh continues to grapple with many |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | of the challenges common to the developing world, expanded access |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | to health care, social services, and education have improved the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | well-being of its population in recent decades; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Emigrants from Bangladesh have made contributions |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | to countries around the globe, and more than 235,000 Bangladeshi |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | Americans reside in the United States; Texas is home to over 13,000 |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | individuals of Bangladeshi heritage, with a particularly large |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | community living in the Dallas-Fort Worth area; and |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Bangladeshi Americans have greatly contributed to |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | the vibrancy of the Lone Star State, and they are indeed deserving |

| 35 | 36 | | of recognition for their rich heritage and impressive record of |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |

| 37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 10, 2025, as Bangladeshi Day at |

| 39 | 40 | | the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |
