67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Bangladeshi Day is taking place at the State Capitol
89 on April 10, 2025, providing a welcome opportunity to honor the
910 history and achievements of the people of Bangladesh, as well as the
1011 thousands of Bangladeshi Americans who make their homes in Texas;
1112 and
1213 WHEREAS, Located in the delta of the Ganges and Brahmaputra
1314 Rivers in the northeastern part of the Indian subcontinent, the
1415 area that now makes up Bangladesh was part of the province of Bengal
1516 during the era of British colonial rule on the Indian subcontinent,
1617 from the mid-18th to mid-20th centuries; the region became part of
1718 Pakistan following the partition of India in 1947; and
1819 WHEREAS, In 1971, Bangladesh gained its independence, and its
1920 capital was established at Dhaka; over the past half century, the
2021 country's economy has become one of the fastest growing in the
2122 world; new developments in agricultural practices have increased
2223 production of rice, jute, tea, and other products; moreover, the
2324 garment industry is integral to national commerce, employing
2425 millions of people; while Bangladesh continues to grapple with many
2526 of the challenges common to the developing world, expanded access
2627 to health care, social services, and education have improved the
2728 well-being of its population in recent decades; and
2829 WHEREAS, Emigrants from Bangladesh have made contributions
2930 to countries around the globe, and more than 235,000 Bangladeshi
3031 Americans reside in the United States; Texas is home to over 13,000
3132 individuals of Bangladeshi heritage, with a particularly large
3233 community living in the Dallas-Fort Worth area; and
3334 WHEREAS, Bangladeshi Americans have greatly contributed to
3435 the vibrancy of the Lone Star State, and they are indeed deserving
3536 of recognition for their rich heritage and impressive record of
3637 accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby recognize April 10, 2025, as Bangladeshi Day at
3940 the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting
4041 delegation.
