78 WHEREAS, Proud residents of Alamo are gathering in Austin on
89 March 5, 2025, to celebrate City of Alamo Day at the State Capitol;

1011 WHEREAS, Located in Hidalgo County and the Rio Grande Valley
1112 region, Alamo was incorporated in 1924, and it was named after the
1213 Spanish term for the cottonwood tree; the town's population has
1314 grown steadily through the years, reaching more than 14,000 by the
1415 end of the 20th century; and
1516 WHEREAS, Today, the city of Alamo is home to over 20,000
1617 people, and its economy benefits from the health care, educational
1718 services, retail, and distribution industries; in addition, its
1819 award-winning Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District is
1920 a nationwide leader in creating academic opportunities for
2021 students; and
2122 WHEREAS, Residents and visitors alike can enjoy the area's
2223 natural beauty at the 2,088-acre Santa Ana National Wildlife
2324 Refuge, which boasts more than 400 species of birds, 450 types of
2425 plants, and half of all butterfly species found in North America;
2526 and
2627 WHEREAS, Home to an engaged citizenry and a dynamic city
2728 government, the city of Alamo is building on its proud heritage to
2829 create a vibrant and prosperous future; now, therefore, be it
2930 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3031 Legislature hereby recognize March 5, 2025, as City of Alamo Day at
3132 the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting
3233 delegation.
