| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Located in Hidalgo County and the Rio Grande Valley |

| 11 | 12 | | region, Alamo was incorporated in 1924, and it was named after the |

| 12 | 13 | | Spanish term for the cottonwood tree; the town's population has |

| 13 | 14 | | grown steadily through the years, reaching more than 14,000 by the |

| 14 | 15 | | end of the 20th century; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Today, the city of Alamo is home to over 20,000 |

| 16 | 17 | | people, and its economy benefits from the health care, educational |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | services, retail, and distribution industries; in addition, its |

| 18 | 19 | | award-winning Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District is |

| 19 | 20 | | a nationwide leader in creating academic opportunities for |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Residents and visitors alike can enjoy the area's |

| 22 | 23 | | natural beauty at the 2,088-acre Santa Ana National Wildlife |

| 23 | 24 | | Refuge, which boasts more than 400 species of birds, 450 types of |

| 24 | 25 | | plants, and half of all butterfly species found in North America; |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Home to an engaged citizenry and a dynamic city |

| 27 | 28 | | government, the city of Alamo is building on its proud heritage to |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 30 | 31 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 5, 2025, as City of Alamo Day at |
