| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, St. Edward's University celebrated the grand |

| 8 | 9 | | opening of its School of Health Sciences on January 28, 2025; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The school completed the initial phase of |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | construction in the summer of 2024, and it welcomed its first |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | nursing students the following fall semester; the launch of the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | nursing program will be followed by the introduction of |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, and physical |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | therapy programs, as well as master's and doctoral degrees in |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | nursing; currently, the university also offers a health systems and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | administration degree for professionals pursuing nonclinical |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | health care positions; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The expansion of its health science course offerings |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | is part of the school's Strategic Plan 2027, which aims to help |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | address Austin's ongoing nursing shortage while providing access to |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | quality education; additionally, the university has established |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | partnerships with health care and community organizations to serve |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | the Central Texas area; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The new nursing program facilities feature multiple |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | simulation labs equipped with high-fidelity manikins, allowing |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | students to participate in various patient care scenarios; in |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | addition, it has a physical and wellness lab, a clinical skills lab, |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | and a women-childcare-family suite; the program benefits from the |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | able leadership of its founding director, Dr. Donna Beuk, who is |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | also serving as interim dean of the School of Health Sciences; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, The establishment of the nursing program at |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | St. Edward's demonstrates the institution's commitment to |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | preparing future health care professionals for careers in this |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | important field, and it is indeed fitting to recognize the school as |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | it embarks on an exciting new chapter in its history; now, |

| 36 | 37 | | therefore, be it |

| 37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the launch of the nursing program at |
