| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, March 11, 2025, is University of Houston-Victoria |

| 8 | 8 | | Day at the State Capitol, and the occasion provides a fitting |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | opportunity to recognize all those associated with this notable |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | institution; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1973, the University of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Houston-Victoria boasts more than 24,000 alumni, including |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | acclaimed author and artist Van G. Garrett; moreover, it is meeting |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | higher education needs in a city that is home to over 65,000 people |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and that serves as a regional hub for the seven-county area known as |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the Golden Crescent; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, UHV educates approximately 3,600 students annually |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | with over 1,000 degrees conferred each year; the university offers |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | more than 50 bachelor's and master's degree programs with |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | concentrations in the fields of business, education and health |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | professions, liberal arts and social sciences, and natural and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | applied science; it was the first public university in Texas to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | offer an accelerated bachelor's degree program, and it offers some |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | of the lowest tuition and fees in the state; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The only accredited four-year university in the city |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of Victoria, UHV is also home to a number of formidable athletic |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | teams competing in baseball, softball, and men's and women's golf |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and soccer in the National Association of Intercollegiate |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Athletics' Red River Conference; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of president Robert K. Glenn, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | UHV has continued to grow as a diverse institution, with the student |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | body currently representing 18 states across the country and 48 |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | countries worldwide; moreover, the school has been recognized as a |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Hispanic-Serving Institution; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Throughout its 52-year history, the University of |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Houston-Victoria has provided its students with outstanding |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | educational opportunities that offer flexibility, promote the |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | financial well-being of the student, and advance the quality of |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | life in the community through excellence in teaching, research, and |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | service, and in so doing, it has contributed significantly to the |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | growth and vitality of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 11, 2025, as University of |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | Houston-Victoria Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome |

| 45 | 45 | | to the visiting delegation. |
