7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Fernando Esqueda of the Harris County |

8 | 9 | | Sheriff's Office was killed in the line of duty on July 11, 2024, at |

9 | 10 | | the age of 28, and his untimely passing is a tragic loss to his |

10 | 11 | | family, to his fellow officers, and to the residents of his |

12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The son of Catalina Guerrero and Jose Leonardo |
---|
13 | 14 | | Esqueda, Fernando Esqueda was born on February 13, 1996, and he grew |
---|
14 | 15 | | up in Houston with the companionship of six siblings, Brenda, Jose, |
---|
15 | 16 | | Vanessa, Pedro, Eric, and Incy; he attended Austin High School, |
---|
16 | 17 | | where he played football and was a member of the Sonic Boom Band; |

---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, At the age of 18, Mr. Esqueda joined the Texas |
---|
19 | 20 | | Department of Criminal Justice and accepted an assignment at the |
---|
20 | 21 | | Goree Unit in Huntsville; after graduating from the University of |
---|
21 | 22 | | Houston Downtown Law Enforcement Academy, he joined the Harris |
---|
22 | 23 | | County Precinct 6 Constable's Office; he began his tenure at the |
---|
23 | 24 | | Harris County Sheriff's Office in February 2019, and he served as a |
---|
24 | 25 | | patrol officer in District 3 before transferring to District 2; on |
---|
25 | 26 | | September 24, 2022, he became a member of the elite Violent Persons |
---|
26 | 27 | | Warrants Task Force; throughout his career, he earned the respect |
---|
27 | 28 | | and admiration of his colleagues for his integrity, bravery, and |
---|
28 | 29 | | steadfast dedication to protecting and serving the public; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Esqueda shared a rewarding relationship with |
---|
30 | 31 | | his fiancée, Emily Guerra, and he treasured time spent with his |
---|
31 | 32 | | eight nieces and nephews; in his leisure hours, he enjoyed hunting, |
---|
32 | 33 | | fishing, singing, and dancing; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, A courageous law enforcement officer, Fernando |
---|
34 | 35 | | Esqueda embodied the highest ideals of his profession, and although |
---|
35 | 36 | | he is deeply missed, his commitment to his loved ones and to Harris |
---|
36 | 37 | | County will be remembered and admired for years to come; now, |

38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Deputy Fernando |

40 | 41 | | Esqueda and extend sincere sympathy to his family and many friends; |
