 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The members of the Klein family have made a lasting
 and positive impact in communities north of Houston in Harris
 County; and
 WHEREAS, The Klein family traces its Texas roots to the
 mid-19th century when Adam Klein left his home in Germany to travel
 to America; after some success during the California gold rush, he
 relocated to Texas and settled with his wife in Harris County around
 1854; he bought land along Cypress Creek, where German immigrants
 had established the farming community called Big Cypress; two
 decades later, the Kleins and other families organized Trinity
 Lutheran Church, which was the center of religious, social, and
 educational life at Big Cypress; in 1884, Mr. Klein helped
 establish a post office, and the area it served became known as
 Klein; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Klein's grandson, A. B. Klein, founded Klein
 Bros. General Merchandise in Spring in 1922, and a decade later, he
 moved the business to Tomball and changed its name to Klein's Fine
 Foods; A. B. Klein's son, Robert Klein, joined the company in 1956
 and oversaw its transformation into an independent supermarket;
 today, it is owned and operated by Jeffrey Klein, Robert Klein's
 son; through the years, the Klein family opened other businesses in
 Tomball and across the region, including Klein Financial and Klein
 Funeral Homes and Memorial Parks, and the family also helped found
 the Tomball Rotary Club and the original Tomball hospital; although
 it had never been platted or incorporated, the Klein community
 formed the nucleus of a rural school district, which since 1938 has
 been known as the Klein Independent School District; in 1977, the
 area inside the boundaries of Klein ISD was officially designated
 by the state legislature as Klein, Texas; and
 WHEREAS, For well over a century and a half, members of the
 Klein family have given back to their community through their
 exemplary entrepreneurship and civic engagement, and the family's
 legacy will forever resonate across the region; now, therefore, be
 it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
 Legislature hereby honor the members of the Klein family for their
 historical Texas roots and for their lasting contributions to
 communities in North Harris County; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the Klein family as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
