67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas is
89 celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2025; and
910 WHEREAS, The roots of Methodist Healthcare Ministries trace
1011 back to 1955, when the Southwest Conference of The United Methodist
1112 Church approved the formation of a nonprofit to own and operate
1213 hospitals in the name of the church; opening in 1963, the Southwest
1314 Methodist Hospital sought to promote and deliver accessible,
1415 quality health care to the underserved, and Methodist Healthcare
1516 Ministries has continued to advance this mission since its
1617 establishment in 1995; today, the Methodist Healthcare System
1718 serves as the largest health care provider in San Antonio and 26
1819 surrounding counties and oversees operations at numerous
1920 specialized area hospitals; and
2021 WHEREAS, Methodist Healthcare Ministries offers primary
2122 medical and dental care as well as counseling, case management,
2223 social services, family wellness, and church-based community
2324 nursing programs to patients across 74 counties; the nonprofit
2425 organization also oversees grant-making and policy initiatives,
2526 and it has worked with more than 150 funding partners to ensure
2627 affordable services to all; together, they have invested over
2728 $82 million in community grants, strategic initiatives, and policy
2829 and advocacy partnerships in an effort to increase access to care
2930 and to improve food security, digital inclusion, and economic
3031 mobility; one impressive example is the collaboration between
3132 Methodist Healthcare Ministries and the San Antonio Metro Health
3233 Department to launch the Healthy Corner Store initiative, which
3334 provides fresh and affordable produce to communities in food
3435 deserts; in addition, the nonprofit established the Medical-Legal
3536 Partnership to address the health-related legal needs of patients;
3637 and
3738 WHEREAS, In recognition of its exemplary business practices,
3839 Methodist Healthcare Ministries received a 2024 Governor's Texas
3940 Award for Performance Excellence from the Quality Texas Foundation
4041 Regional Program, and it was one of only two organizations that
4142 earned this accolade that year; with this honor, it was commended
4243 for its leadership, strategic planning, measurement, analysis and
4344 knowledge management, results, and focus on its customers,
4445 workforce, and operations; and
4546 WHEREAS, Methodist Healthcare Ministries has provided expert
4647 and compassionate care to countless men, women, and children in San
4748 Antonio and beyond, and the members of its medical, support, and
4849 administrative staff may indeed take great pride in its outstanding
4950 record of service over the past three decades; now, therefore, be it
5051 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
5152 Legislature hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of Methodist
5253 Healthcare Ministries of South Texas and extend to all those
5354 associated with the organization sincere best wishes for the
5455 future; and, be it further
5556 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5657 prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
5758 Texas House of Representatives.
