67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, The Teen and Police Service Academy of Houston is
89 making a positive difference in the lives of young citizens; and
910 WHEREAS, Dedicated to reducing the social distance between
1011 youth and law enforcement personnel, TAPS Academy promotes
1112 interaction and discussion between teenagers and police mentors;
1213 and
1314 WHEREAS, Student participants enhance their decision-making
1415 skills and earn course credit during the 17-week TAPS Academy
1516 program, which addresses a variety of important topics, including
1617 conflict resolution, truancy, drugs and alcohol, and crime
1718 prevention; moreover, the organization offers several other
1819 initiatives, including the Texas Education Agency-accredited
1920 TEENPOL program, TAPS Ambassadors, the Summer Youth Leadership
2021 Institute, and the Texas Traffic Stop Training course; and
2122 WHEREAS, By encouraging understanding between young people
2223 and law enforcement professionals, the TAPS Academy of Houston is
2324 helping to shape a brighter future for area residents, and it is
2425 indeed deserving of recognition for its efforts; now, therefore, be
2526 it
2627 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
2728 Legislature hereby commend the Teen and Police Service Academy of
2829 Houston for its contributions to the community and extend to all
2930 involved with the organization sincere best wishes for the future;
3031 and, be it further
3132 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3233 prepared for TAPS Academy of Houston as an expression of high regard
3334 by the Texas House of Representatives.
