67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at
89 the loss of Sergeant Mark Allen Butler of the Navasota Police
910 Department, who was tragically killed in the line of duty on January
1011 15, 2025, at the age of 34; and
1112 WHEREAS, Mark Butler was born in Winchester, Virginia, on
1213 June 25, 1990; after graduating from West Virginia University, he
1314 answered his nation's call to duty by enlisting in the U.S. Army; he
1415 served at the rank of first lieutenant and was assigned to the Horse
1516 Cavalry Detachment, 1st Cavalry Division; he spent six years on
1617 active duty and four years on reserve; and
1718 WHEREAS, Following his completion of Texas A&M Engineering
1819 Extension Service law enforcement training in 2021, Mr. Butler
1920 embarked on his career with the Navasota Police Department; he
2021 subsequently was employed for a brief period by the Grimes County
2122 Sheriff's Office before returning to the Navasota force; he
2223 distinguished himself over the course of his tenure, receiving a
2324 promotion to patrol sergeant in October 2024 and earning a
2425 reputation as a proactive officer who helped lead the SWAT special
2526 response team, lent his support to rookies and to training, and
2627 demonstrated a commitment to protecting his fellow residents;
2728 moreover, he loved working with K9 officers, and his dog Kilo was
2829 laid to rest with him; he was known as a man of tremendous integrity
2930 and generosity, and his dedicated service inspired an outpouring of
3031 prayers and sympathy from the community; and
3132 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Sergeant Butler was devoted to
3233 his wife, Evette Fannin Butler, and their two children, Ezra and
3334 Elias; and
3435 WHEREAS, Mark Butler was a courageous and caring public
3536 servant who embodied the highest ideals of the law enforcement
3637 profession, and his service and sacrifice in behalf of his
3738 community will forever be remembered; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Mark Allen
4041 Butler and extend deepest condolences to all those who mourn his
4142 passing; and, be it further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4445 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mark
4546 Butler.
