| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at |

| 8 | 9 | | the loss of Sergeant Mark Allen Butler of the Navasota Police |

| 9 | 10 | | Department, who was tragically killed in the line of duty on January |

| 10 | 11 | | 15, 2025, at the age of 34; and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mark Butler was born in Winchester, Virginia, on |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | June 25, 1990; after graduating from West Virginia University, he |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | answered his nation's call to duty by enlisting in the U.S. Army; he |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | served at the rank of first lieutenant and was assigned to the Horse |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Cavalry Detachment, 1st Cavalry Division; he spent six years on |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | active duty and four years on reserve; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Following his completion of Texas A&M Engineering |

| 18 | 19 | | Extension Service law enforcement training in 2021, Mr. Butler |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | embarked on his career with the Navasota Police Department; he |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | subsequently was employed for a brief period by the Grimes County |

| 21 | 22 | | Sheriff's Office before returning to the Navasota force; he |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | distinguished himself over the course of his tenure, receiving a |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | promotion to patrol sergeant in October 2024 and earning a |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | reputation as a proactive officer who helped lead the SWAT special |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | response team, lent his support to rookies and to training, and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | demonstrated a commitment to protecting his fellow residents; |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | moreover, he loved working with K9 officers, and his dog Kilo was |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | laid to rest with him; he was known as a man of tremendous integrity |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | and generosity, and his dedicated service inspired an outpouring of |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | prayers and sympathy from the community; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Sergeant Butler was devoted to |

| 32 | 33 | | his wife, Evette Fannin Butler, and their two children, Ezra and |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | Elias; and |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Mark Butler was a courageous and caring public |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | servant who embodied the highest ideals of the law enforcement |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | profession, and his service and sacrifice in behalf of his |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | community will forever be remembered; now, therefore, be it |

| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Mark Allen |

| 40 | 41 | | Butler and extend deepest condolences to all those who mourn his |

| 41 | 42 | | passing; and, be it further |
