10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The son of the Reverend Ananias Bryant and Beatrice |

11 | 12 | | Maynard Bryant, Isaac Bryant was born in Montgomery on April 28, |

12 | 13 | | 1937, and he enjoyed the companionship of 12 siblings, Fannie, |
---|
13 | 14 | | Edith, Inez, Pauline, Hattie, Nancy, Willie, Beatrice, Oran, |
---|
14 | 15 | | Joseph, Lillian, and his twin, Elizabeth; he grew up in Houston's |
---|
15 | 16 | | Fifth Ward, and as a student at Phillis Wheatley High School, he |
---|
16 | 17 | | stood out for his intellectual achievements and leadership in many |
---|
17 | 18 | | organizations; in 1955, he graduated as the highest-ranking male in |
---|
18 | 19 | | his class; he continued his education at Howard University, earning |
---|
19 | 20 | | his bachelor's degree cum laude in 1959, and he attended law school |
---|
20 | 21 | | at Rutgers University; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In 1961, Mr. Bryant returned to Houston, where he |
---|
22 | 23 | | helped care for his family and began his teaching career; he worked |
---|
23 | 24 | | at E. O. Smith Junior High School before transferring to Phillis |
---|
24 | 25 | | Wheatley High in 1966 as a government and economics instructor; in |
---|
25 | 26 | | 1970, he embarked on a 32-year tenure at Stephen F. Austin High |
---|
26 | 27 | | School, and during this time, he also attended the South Texas |
---|
27 | 28 | | College of Law, where he earned his juris doctor degree in 1977; he |
---|
28 | 29 | | retired from teaching in 2002; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Bryant was the proud father of a son, Eldridge |
---|
30 | 31 | | Jackson, who preceded him in death; with the passing years, his |
---|
31 | 32 | | treasured family grew to include three granddaughters, Emetria, |
---|
32 | 33 | | Virginia, and Evette, and three great-granddaughters, A'miyah, |
---|
33 | 34 | | Arielle, and Ariyah; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, A gifted vocalist, Mr. Bryant was a member of the |
---|
35 | 36 | | family gospel group The Bryant Singers, and he also recorded solos |
---|
36 | 37 | | and performed at various events; a man of faith, he was a lifelong |
---|
37 | 38 | | congregant of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, where he sang in |
---|
38 | 39 | | the choir and served in various leadership roles; in his leisure |
---|
39 | 40 | | time, he liked watching Dallas Cowboys games, and he used his broad |
---|
40 | 41 | | knowledge as a contestant on the television show Jeopardy!; and |
---|
41 | 42 | | WHEREAS, Isaac Bryant lived a life that was rich in personal |
---|
42 | 43 | | and professional achievements, and he will forever be a source of |
---|
43 | 44 | | inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

45 | 46 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Isaac T. Bryant and |
---|
46 | 47 | | extend sincere condolences to his many relatives and friends; and, |
