67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
89 memories of Isaac T. Bryant of Houston, who passed away on
910 February 21, 2025, at the age of 87; and
1011 WHEREAS, The son of the Reverend Ananias Bryant and Beatrice
1112 Maynard Bryant, Isaac Bryant was born in Montgomery on April 28,
1213 1937, and he enjoyed the companionship of 12 siblings, Fannie,
1314 Edith, Inez, Pauline, Hattie, Nancy, Willie, Beatrice, Oran,
1415 Joseph, Lillian, and his twin, Elizabeth; he grew up in Houston's
1516 Fifth Ward, and as a student at Phillis Wheatley High School, he
1617 stood out for his intellectual achievements and leadership in many
1718 organizations; in 1955, he graduated as the highest-ranking male in
1819 his class; he continued his education at Howard University, earning
1920 his bachelor's degree cum laude in 1959, and he attended law school
2021 at Rutgers University; and
2122 WHEREAS, In 1961, Mr. Bryant returned to Houston, where he
2223 helped care for his family and began his teaching career; he worked
2324 at E. O. Smith Junior High School before transferring to Phillis
2425 Wheatley High in 1966 as a government and economics instructor; in
2526 1970, he embarked on a 32-year tenure at Stephen F. Austin High
2627 School, and during this time, he also attended the South Texas
2728 College of Law, where he earned his juris doctor degree in 1977; he
2829 retired from teaching in 2002; and
2930 WHEREAS, Mr. Bryant was the proud father of a son, Eldridge
3031 Jackson, who preceded him in death; with the passing years, his
3132 treasured family grew to include three granddaughters, Emetria,
3233 Virginia, and Evette, and three great-granddaughters, A'miyah,
3334 Arielle, and Ariyah; and
3435 WHEREAS, A gifted vocalist, Mr. Bryant was a member of the
3536 family gospel group The Bryant Singers, and he also recorded solos
3637 and performed at various events; a man of faith, he was a lifelong
3738 congregant of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, where he sang in
3839 the choir and served in various leadership roles; in his leisure
3940 time, he liked watching Dallas Cowboys games, and he used his broad
4041 knowledge as a contestant on the television show Jeopardy!; and
4142 WHEREAS, Isaac Bryant lived a life that was rich in personal
4243 and professional achievements, and he will forever be a source of
4344 inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
4445 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4546 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Isaac T. Bryant and
4647 extend sincere condolences to his many relatives and friends; and,
4748 be it further
4849 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4950 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5051 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Isaac
5152 Bryant.
