 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Proud residents of Floresville are gathering in
 Austin to celebrate Floresville Day at the State Capitol on
 March 6, 2025; and
 WHEREAS, Floresville is situated 30 miles southeast of San
 Antonio on land that was once occupied by Spanish settlers, who
 established missions and ranches along the San Antonio River and
 created supply routes leading to the Gulf Coast; formerly known as
 Lodi, it was founded in 1867 and named after Don Francisco Flores de
 Abrego, an immigrant from the Canary Islands who operated a ranch
 outside of the town during the 18th century; in 1873, voters
 approved the decision to make Floresville the Wilson County seat,
 and it was incorporated in 1890; and
 WHEREAS, During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the
 city enjoyed a period of rapid growth with the arrival of the
 San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway and the success of the local
 cotton and livestock industries; around 1915, peanuts emerged as a
 cash crop in the region, leading residents to dub Floresville the
 "Peanut Capital of Texas"; and
 WHEREAS, Today, Floresville serves as a market center for
 peanut and grain farmers and cattle ranchers, and its economy
 benefits from the health care, construction, and manufacturing
 industries; with a population of around 8,300 people, it provides
 residents with a more relaxed, small-town lifestyle, while still
 being within commuting distance of San Antonio; since 1938, the
 city has hosted the annual Peanut Festival, which attracts more
 than 20,000 attendees and features parades, pageants, and myriad
 other activities; and
 WHEREAS, Floresville is home to hardworking and enterprising
 citizens who are committed to building an even brighter future for
 their community, and it is indeed fitting that their history and
 achievements be recognized; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize March 6, 2025, as Floresville Day at
 the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting
 delegation.
