| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Floresville are gathering in |

| 8 | 9 | | Austin to celebrate Floresville Day at the State Capitol on |

| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Floresville is situated 30 miles southeast of San |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Antonio on land that was once occupied by Spanish settlers, who |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | established missions and ranches along the San Antonio River and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | created supply routes leading to the Gulf Coast; formerly known as |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Lodi, it was founded in 1867 and named after Don Francisco Flores de |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Abrego, an immigrant from the Canary Islands who operated a ranch |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | outside of the town during the 18th century; in 1873, voters |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | approved the decision to make Floresville the Wilson County seat, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | and it was incorporated in 1890; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | city enjoyed a period of rapid growth with the arrival of the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway and the success of the local |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | cotton and livestock industries; around 1915, peanuts emerged as a |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | cash crop in the region, leading residents to dub Floresville the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | "Peanut Capital of Texas"; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Today, Floresville serves as a market center for |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | peanut and grain farmers and cattle ranchers, and its economy |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | benefits from the health care, construction, and manufacturing |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | industries; with a population of around 8,300 people, it provides |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | residents with a more relaxed, small-town lifestyle, while still |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | being within commuting distance of San Antonio; since 1938, the |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | city has hosted the annual Peanut Festival, which attracts more |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | than 20,000 attendees and features parades, pageants, and myriad |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | other activities; and |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Floresville is home to hardworking and enterprising |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | citizens who are committed to building an even brighter future for |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | their community, and it is indeed fitting that their history and |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | achievements be recognized; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 6, 2025, as Floresville Day at |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |
|---|
| 41 | 42 | | delegation. |
