7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Christine Mihealsick of the Round Rock Independent |

8 | 9 | | School District has been named the 2025 Texas Teacher of the Year by |

9 | 10 | | the Texas Association of School Administrators; and |

10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Each year, outstanding educators from across the |

11 | 12 | | country are selected as State Teachers of the Year as part of the |
---|
12 | 13 | | National Teacher of the Year initiative run by the Council of Chief |
---|
13 | 14 | | State School Officers; the cohort of honorees is given the |
---|
14 | 15 | | opportunity to participate in a yearlong professional development |
---|
15 | 16 | | program, and they are narrowed to a number of finalists by a |
---|
16 | 17 | | committee of representatives from various education organizations; |
---|
17 | 18 | | one candidate is ultimately named National Teacher of the Year, who |
---|
18 | 19 | | then travels the country to share their wisdom, elevate issues |
---|
19 | 20 | | faced by members of their profession, and inspire others to enter |
---|
20 | 21 | | the field of teaching; and |

21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Chris Mihealsick has enjoyed a rewarding career in |

22 | 23 | | education that has spanned 23 years, and she currently teaches |

23 | 24 | | 11th- and 12th-grade Advanced Placement environmental science at |

24 | 25 | | Westwood High School, where she is also the science department |
---|
25 | 26 | | chair; her teaching focuses on building positive relationships and |

26 | 27 | | fostering a respectful learning environment in the classroom, and |
---|
27 | 28 | | she frequently engages her students in fieldwork and real-world |
---|
28 | 29 | | case studies; she holds a bachelor's degree in biology and a |
---|
29 | 30 | | master's degree in science education from The University of Texas |
---|
30 | 31 | | at Austin; and |

31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, A National Board Certified Teacher, Ms. Mihealsick |

32 | 33 | | has previously been selected for a Fulbright exchange program to |

33 | 34 | | Japan and the Toyota International Teacher Program in Costa Rica, |

34 | 35 | | and she also took part in the Northrop Grumman ECO Classroom program |

35 | 36 | | for tropical research; she has consulted for the National Math and |

36 | 37 | | Science Initiative for eight years, and she has been a College Board |
---|
37 | 38 | | AP exam reader for more than a decade; in addition, she is the only |
---|
38 | 39 | | UT alumnus to have twice won the prestigious R. L. Moore Award for |
---|
39 | 40 | | inquiry-based teaching from the university's UTeach program; she |
---|
40 | 41 | | was concurrently recognized as the 2025 Texas Secondary Teacher of |

41 | 42 | | the Year by TASA; and |

42 | 43 | | WHEREAS, Chris Mihealsick exemplifies the passion, |

43 | 44 | | determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our |

44 | 45 | | best teachers, and she has set a standard of excellence to which all |

45 | 46 | | in her profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it |

46 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

47 | 48 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Christine Mihealsick on her |

48 | 49 | | selection as the 2025 Texas Teacher of the Year by the Texas |
