67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Christine Mihealsick of the Round Rock Independent
89 School District has been named the 2025 Texas Teacher of the Year by
910 the Texas Association of School Administrators; and
1011 WHEREAS, Each year, outstanding educators from across the
1112 country are selected as State Teachers of the Year as part of the
1213 National Teacher of the Year initiative run by the Council of Chief
1314 State School Officers; the cohort of honorees is given the
1415 opportunity to participate in a yearlong professional development
1516 program, and they are narrowed to a number of finalists by a
1617 committee of representatives from various education organizations;
1718 one candidate is ultimately named National Teacher of the Year, who
1819 then travels the country to share their wisdom, elevate issues
1920 faced by members of their profession, and inspire others to enter
2021 the field of teaching; and
2122 WHEREAS, Chris Mihealsick has enjoyed a rewarding career in
2223 education that has spanned 23 years, and she currently teaches
2324 11th- and 12th-grade Advanced Placement environmental science at
2425 Westwood High School, where she is also the science department
2526 chair; her teaching focuses on building positive relationships and
2627 fostering a respectful learning environment in the classroom, and
2728 she frequently engages her students in fieldwork and real-world
2829 case studies; she holds a bachelor's degree in biology and a
2930 master's degree in science education from The University of Texas
3031 at Austin; and
3132 WHEREAS, A National Board Certified Teacher, Ms. Mihealsick
3233 has previously been selected for a Fulbright exchange program to
3334 Japan and the Toyota International Teacher Program in Costa Rica,
3435 and she also took part in the Northrop Grumman ECO Classroom program
3536 for tropical research; she has consulted for the National Math and
3637 Science Initiative for eight years, and she has been a College Board
3738 AP exam reader for more than a decade; in addition, she is the only
3839 UT alumnus to have twice won the prestigious R. L. Moore Award for
3940 inquiry-based teaching from the university's UTeach program; she
4041 was concurrently recognized as the 2025 Texas Secondary Teacher of
4142 the Year by TASA; and
4243 WHEREAS, Chris Mihealsick exemplifies the passion,
4344 determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our
4445 best teachers, and she has set a standard of excellence to which all
4546 in her profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it
4647 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4748 Legislature hereby congratulate Christine Mihealsick on her
4849 selection as the 2025 Texas Teacher of the Year by the Texas
4950 Association of School Administrators and extend to her sincere best
5051 wishes for continued success with her important work; and, be it
5152 further
5253 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5354 prepared for Ms. Mihealsick as an expression of high regard by the
5455 Texas House of Representatives.
