9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1900 by a group of physicians in Dallas, |

10 | 11 | | the school was originally named the University of Dallas Medical |
---|
11 | 12 | | Department; three years later, the school became affiliated with |
---|
12 | 13 | | Baylor University in Waco and was renamed Baylor University College |
---|
13 | 14 | | of Medicine; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In 1943, the MD Anderson Foundation invited Baylor |
---|
15 | 16 | | University College of Medicine to join the Texas Medical Center in |
---|
16 | 17 | | Houston, and the school opened with 131 students; four years later, |
---|
17 | 18 | | Baylor moved to its present site in the Roy and Lillie Cullen |

25 | 26 | | of Health Professions, and National School of Tropical Medicine; |

27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Baylor College of Medicine ranks first in Texas and |

28 | 29 | | 20th in the country in funding from the National Institutes of |

29 | 30 | | Health, and it is classified as a Tier One medical school by U.S. |

31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Baylor College of Medicine is committed to the |

32 | 33 | | education of the next generation of health care providers and |

33 | 34 | | scientists and to ensuring there are enough medical professionals |

34 | 35 | | to serve the state's residents, with nearly half of the graduating |
---|
35 | 36 | | medical students continuing their medical training in Texas; in |

36 | 37 | | 2023, the inaugural class of medical students started at Baylor's |
---|
37 | 38 | | regional medical school campus in Temple, in a partnership with |
---|
38 | 39 | | Baylor Scott & White Health to address the state's shortage of rural |

85 | 86 | | WHEREAS, For more than a century, Baylor College of Medicine |
